Sorry, but how can any BMW, let alone an M5 badged one and to top it all one with huge f*ckoff "pull me over" vents on the bonnet be considered a sleeper???? confused

EDIT: that M5 is not even nearly a sleeper! It's an M5 to start with, which is obviously quick and then it's got tarty wheels and body mods!
Considering it's as quick as a GSX-R 1000, I'd say it's a sleeper. You'd never think some old "chavved up" M5 would be staying ahead of you on your 1000cc supersports Suzuki now, would you?
I think your wrong on this one, but only because people will expect it to be fast, Its an m5 after all,now if that engine had been put into say a 535d body, with the correct suspension mods etc etc, then that would be my definition of a sleeper.smile

Look up some proper sleeper cars:

- VW Passat W8
- Volvo S80 T6 (to a certain degree)
- Most BMW M cars.
- Almost any AMG, especially the old '65 series, complete with 612bhp and 784lb/ft torque... in the S-Class, CL and SL. Mental.
- Volvo S60R (manual though, the auto is much, much slower according to actual figures).
- Lotus Carlton
- Audi RS models. Especially the old RS4... RS2 was a little more obvious but still pretty sleeper-ish...

I love these kind of cars.
W8 and maybe the Volvo's. The rest are not sleepers, not even close.

I remember seeing iirc a passat (diesel?) with something outrageous like 440 brake whilst looking almost completely standard, that was the sort of thing I was after. Something that looks utterly boring and generic, but would blow your head off acceleration wise/make the person in the corsa trying to race you off the lights rather embarrassed.

edit: Cheers for the info, I'll get googling Q-cars asap smile.
Dunno about stories or articles, but head over to the Wizards of Nos website and forum. Some pretty good stuff there, from CDTI Vectra, Rover 2000 and a smart ForTwo.

While not a true sleeper my CRX used to suprise a few people.

The only give away was the intecooler poking out the front. It looked like such a heap that most people thought it was a radiator though hehe and didn't think it would be quick at all.

13.7 @ 105 over a standing 1/4 mile suggests otherwise though biggrin

Currently in development to run low 12s but it looks quite a bit less sleeperish now though with a cage and and even bigger intercooler.

Rubbish. There have been plenty of threads on sleepers here on PH, never mind any other site.

Most of the articles on here seem to be about people arguing as to whether an m5 is a sleeper or not. I've already been through that long "suprised by a sleeper/qcar" thread on here, and as well as arguing about the m5's status as a sleeper or not it was mostly about peoples experiences getting their arses handed to them at the lights by sleepers. Don't get me wrong, these stories are awesome, however, I was specifically asking for details of individual cars, build threads etc etc to which there seem to be very few of.

Try the My Rides section of the forum. Suspect there are a number of good cars and write ups in there if you don't mind browsing.

I seriously miss my 1.6i-16 CRX, that D16A9 was a peach in such a light, chuckable chassis. Even with oil rings so worn that it burned 1litre every 250miles, it could still harras Clio 182s...

...whilst laying down a James Bond smoke screen hehe

911p, who are you trying to kid? Your understanding of a sleeper is most definitely incorrect. Not only is that an M5, but it has also been extensively externally modified, meaning that anyone from the outside could tell that it's been tinkered with.

A VW Bora/Passat as has been mentioned, with heavy performance modifications and a very standard untouched exterior would be classed as a sleeper. At least you didn't claim that the M5 pictured was yours though, which is a start...
