I want that so badly, it is just what I am after, so low key it hurts, was gutted when I saw it was sold frown

That is a sleeper, pure and simple, thats what it is about, Anythign with an M or AMG badge isn't, they arent even subtle with their diffusers, scoops, quad pipes, vents and stuff, my wife isnt really interested in cars but knows an M3 is a quick car.

I think that Golf is about as good as it gets, I wanted a MK2 Golf 20VT, based on a GTI but I think now it has to be base model, oh the fun re-educating 335d owners smile

however, after much searching, it seems that they are a right bugger to find good threads/articles about.
Rubbish. There have been plenty of threads on sleepers here on PH, never mind any other site.
Most of the articles on here seem to be about people arguing as to whether an m5 is a sleeper or not. I've already been through that long "suprised by a sleeper/qcar" thread on here, and as well as arguing about the m5's status as a sleeper or not it was mostly about peoples experiences getting their arses handed to them at the lights by sleepers. Don't get me wrong, these stories are awesome, however, I was specifically asking for details of individual cars, build threads etc etc to which there seem to be very few of.

OK, fair enough.

As has been said, the readers car section is a good place to start, as not many people submit their car if it is completely standard.

Some of the best examples I've heard of are the 700 bhp Dolomite 'Cosworth' and the Audi Coupe in this months Evo (with a 0-192mph of 7.7 secs yikes )

a Hartge tuned 6.0 litre V12 with nearly 500bhp it also has uprated suspension and brakes

I seriously miss my 1.6i-16 CRX, that D16A9 was a peach in such a light, chuckable chassis. Even with oil rings so worn that it burned 1litre every 250miles, it could still harras Clio 182s...

...whilst laying down a James Bond smoke screen hehe
I blew my 2nd bottom end towards the end of summer last year, that put paid to the A9 for me. The new build is using a D16z6 from the EG shape Civic.

Coupled with some rather tasty forged internals should make for a nice strong engine smile

My uncle had a V8 Morris Minor that could leave Renault 5 Turbos for dust back in the 90s.

I love sleepers. I hope to build one in the future!

http://passionford.com/forum/pictures-video-and-ph... Check out the volwo about half way down. And the Cosworth BMW

There is an Alfa 147 in the Reader's cars section on here that is being built at the moment. It will be a bit of a sleeper when its finished:

Probably because the rods in A9s are like pencils.

The Z6 is good for about 150whp on standard internals @8psi with a good quality kit and tune from what I've learned from my tuner. Bloody brilliant value and immense performance for your money.

I've always been an NA man, but single slammer turbo cars do appeal.

I have a standard Z6 in there at the moment waiting on the forged block at the moment, got a few minor things to sort out then it will run. Daz @ DNR has had standard internal Z6s up to over 300 bhp, the guys at BYR ran one to around 400.

I am also building a NA D series drag car this year smile

..Maybe change that to 'visually' stock, cos it's not just had the engine transplanted.

I have remembered seeing a totally standard mk3/4 escort in that horrible sun bleached baby blue with steel wheels but a nice barryboys exhaust. I know it had a cosworth engine in but no idea of spec or driven wheels.

looked pretty sleeperish
I know that car, Mark Wenn's Escort

Someone offered me a race while I was at a petrol station a few years back, he had a Nissan Bluebird and swore blindly it would beat the Supra. It had a Skyline GTR engine, the best sleeper I have seen to this day
