Come on people, its got bloody pinic tables FFS! Yes, picnic tables. The misses wants to spend £800 on a new table for the garden, at least you get a car thrown in with this.

Nothing wrong with it, run it for a year, chuck it.

No thanks, I'd rather spend the extra to get a later X300. Next!

ETA love how he slags off the V8 engine, and then goes on to say he has bought one to replace this. Does anyone else think that would be a horrible wedding car? It'd be good if it was your own car, but to rent?

What would be a horrible wedding car?! Think that's just your thinking mate. An old Jag, in decent condition, always has a lot of charm, and commands respect.

I would be proud to turn up in either one of the Jags for the wedding.

We are not renting it, my Dad has purchased an XJ8. I did not slag the engine, just said these are less problematic engines, which they are and it's a well-documented fact. We have already had to replace the thermostat housing (common fault) in the XJ8. But, it's still and XJ, and has the drve only an XJ can deliver....

The AJ16 engine in my old X300 Sport wanted for nothing.

And yes, you could buy an X300 for this sort of money, but I, it will probably be a rotter, not have as much service history, etc.

I love all XJ Jags - they are 'proper' Jags in my opinion, but obviously, some models are better than others.

Anyways - each to their own I suppose, and these are merely only my own personal opinions...
I did say you'd have to spend extra to get an X300.

Sorry about the wedding car comment, I misunderstood your reason for selling it. I thought you were in the business of hiring cars out. As I said, if it were my own car then yes it'd be great, I used my own XJ for a wedding last year but I wouldn't rent someone else's. As you say, maybe it's just me!

No worries dude!

And, I love the XJ8 -they just seem to be a little more fragile than the earlier straight-six engines.

Who cares - it might only do 22 mpg - but it glides along nicely, and growls when it needs to!

BTW - nice XJR!
Alas, a fear of rising fuel prices, an impending service, low tread on the tyres and a worry about something going wrong made me sell it. I do regret doing it but it might have cost a fortune to keep it on the road. Hoping to get a non supercharged X300 or X308 again at some point!

Good luck with the XJ8, friend has just bought one and they are lovely.

Again, apologies. I have a policy of not insulting other peoples cars, and regret breaking it in this case.

Thanks mate. Yeh, this one is on Madeira Red (pretty rare, as Carnival Red was more common on these models), and has 18" XJR 'Penta' Alloys fitted.

It does look the nuts, but, I have always faniced the XJR in Black with off-white leathers.

Funny thing thse Jags - they cost so much to run, yet, there's something about them that brings you back to own another XJ at some point!

I'd buy that! [if I was in England]

We need a new sofa for the wintergarden anyways. I would punter around in that
one for a while and then part it. (probably it would have grown close to my
heart at that point, so, good that I am not near the seller...)

Seven hundred quid and you worry about it being a money pit, buy it, run it and if it breask scarp it, the banger boys would love it, which would be a shame, it just depends whether you want to sink several grand into an old woofer, its only a money pit if you let it become one, otherwise you risk seven hundred quid minus what you get for it if it breaks. bit of rust, pah, remeber withnail and I ?

As for 22 mpg, my bloody Saab 9-3 only does that and it doesnt have a full on waft mode

Top shedding I would say.

Not many cars built in the 80's remain as cool and swanky as these babies. I love it, but although I didn't know that the Daimler badge represented an upgrade in trim quality, I would still prefer it to be a Jag....

Always loved these as a kid and still like them now.

I have very fond memories of wafting along in the back of my Grandad's gold Sovereign - it felt very special and suited the old chap perfectly - bit of a throw back to the days of the Empire (him that is)!

For £700 I'd be very tempted, just for old time's sake. For that sort of money yu could run it into the ground, then (sacrilege alert) make yourelf an awesome two seater setee and pair of armchairs... getmecoat

It's a strange thing caution.
You could spend all your time obsessing with worrying about what is wrong with something that it leads you to forget what is right with it.

£700 for a chance to own and enjoy for nearly a year a classic Jaguar/Daimler complete with walnut picnic tables. It may be exactly as the owner implies - a solid Daimler that with a few small fixes and care could be kept for a few years and may end up being worth more than you paid for it. This is the price of a crap sofa from our usual high street suspects.
I'm not in the market for one - terrace house and no street room :-( - but if I was I would look this over.

No, it has picnic ledges. If you want picnic TABLES, you need a Mk X or 420G!

Mmmm... 420G.

The first Jag I ever rode in when my dad bought one from an auction when I was about 5 years old. Still got the pictures of me dressed in my brown stripey tank top and shorts stood in front of it.

Thing is, they'd only gone to buy a Maxi but my mother had persuaded my dad to bid on this thing... it was so big they had to demolish the gateposts of the driveway to get it in.

Beautiful, totally over the top piece of kit! smile
