Having a young kid myself, I'm quite surprised the author didn't pulverize the bloke himself.

Very sad indeed.

The other story half way down the page is also an eye-opener!

(From Rover forum)===>

Wow. Thank you for sharing with us.

I have experienced extreme agression on the road myself.

On a dual carriage way I was talking to my girlfriend whilst watching my mirrors and generally interogating my surroundings as I do when I'm driving. In expressing a thought that came into my mind with an F word, I was unfortunate enough to catch the eye of a passing motorist who obviously thought that my expletive was directed at him. He zoomed off to the nearest lay by to wait for me. As I approached the lay by, he sped up to motorway speed before cutting across a busy lane of traffic so that he could tailgate me. In an expression of my annoyance at having a car 3 foot from my bumper at 70mph, I switched my brake lights on (something I am not proud of and have not done since). What followed was the most terrifying experience of my life. The guy emergency stopped infront of me on the motorway several times, almost causing people behind to pile into the back of me. Then despite me loosing him several times by pretending to exit and then changing my mind at the last minute, he would speed up to catch up to me to continue his aggression. Entering the city didn't help matters as he tried to ram me off the road on a number of roundabouts whilst screaming out the car that he was 'going to kill me'. Throughout all of this, his 7 year old son was in the car with him. At one point he even blocked the road, got out of the car and ran towards me. The only thing that stopped the situation in the end was driving into the police station car park...

I post this not to hijack your story, but to share my experinces and why I am so careful nowadays not to do anything incite the aggression of other road users.

A really tragic story and all for what? Some tosser who cant accept someone else's mistake or the fact that someone was trying to make more progress.

I'll admit i can suffer from road rage, favourite places for it to happen are roundabouts, people changing lanes every 2 seconds, being in the wrong lane, wrong/lack of signals. Sometimes will result in me saying a few nasty words in the direction of the driver who's just done it, not that they can hear me. However i would never start performing stupid manouvers that could harm either me or any other driver on the road or passengers for that matter. If something really does wind me up and im still going on after a few seconds then i will pull over somewhere safely, have a drink (I always make sure ive got a couple of bottles of pop or something in the back) and wait untill i have calmed down again before carrying on my journey.

Having only passed my test 2 and a half months ago im not very experiance at all, so the last thing i want to do is try and concentrate on driving even in my local area which i know like the back of my hand whilst very wound up.

Good grief, that is a sobering story.

If ever I have got into a little road rage I usually make a cock of myself and immediately feel sorry afterwards. But I've never tried to ram a car, out-brake a car, swerve into a car etc.

Even though it is entirely his fault, you can't help wonder what the guy will feel like for the rest of his days. I hope it haunts him and he gives up driving for good, though we know that won't be the case.

When I went to get insurance for my first car, after we moved to England nine years ago, I overheard a discussion on the phone about a guy trying to get cover after TWO counts of causing death by dangerous driving!!!!

yikes
