It is pretty stupid though, I'd imagine that PH members who don't know about the quite unique engine in an RX-8 are very much in the minority.

The comment didnt worry me, it was more the fact the conversation went "hello, i bet that drinks alot" as opposed to "hello, i like your new car, are you please with it?" or "is it petrol of diesel?"

I've found anything with a jaguar badge gets that comment, myths in motoring seem to last longer than old chewing gum. Even my neighbours old diesel X-type got it ffs. I had a 3L v6 S-type and got it a lot. Usually from people in 2L diesel MPVs at work. I usually responded that it wasn't bad getting about 400 miles out of a tank on a good day which they then conceded wasn't bad and about the same as their car. I didn't tell them filling a tank probably cost bit more than theirs

Father is the weird car collector. Now has the money to re-live his PH days from the 70s and 80s.

Shogun sport is hers, and DB7 was bought for her. The rest are fathers, including the newly departed xk8.

They do actually get listed as a 2.6 fairly often so I can see how someone would make this mistake.

I think this is something to do with it being raced and getting counted as double the displacement for comparison purposes?

Some insurance companies would list them as such too, even if they didn't categorise cars by displacement.
