Someone told me that they had just bought a BMW 650. I was very impressed and asked to have a look at it. Turns out it was a motorbike paperbag

Indescribe my car as the "old BMW" or the "old 3 series" to most people, and most of my friends refer to it as the "Beemer". If it is someone who knows about cars, it is referred to as the 328i.

Do you think that someone who thinks all kitcars look like Lotus 7s would benefit from me telling them I drive a GTM Libra? I go straight to 'kitcar' because it saves hearing them say, "What's one of them?"

To car people I refer to my two as 'The Disco' or 'The Golf'. If they want to know more they will ask. To non PH types it's 'The Land Rover' or 'My little Golf'.

So true. The correct terminology is 'Bimma'

And to really confuse the issue, if it's F650 it could either be a 650cc single or an 800cc twin depending on the year rolleyes

can we all just agree to stop using bellendy names for our cars, and refer to it as your car, unless you have more than one in which case the marque will suffice. Only mention the model if you have more than one of the same marque.

Only if everyone makes sure they have a wide ranging knowledge of cars so we don't have to put up with, "A what?". biggrin

You actually say "3er"? Why not just 3-series?

Strictly speaking it should be 'dreier', 'funfer', etc...as that's the German shorthand for the cars.

I'll type it (3er) to petrolhead mates, but don't think I've ever said it...

And as with you NotDave, Volkswagen Passat SE TDI PD 130 becomes a bit of a mouthful!
I've had to differentiate a couple of times when passengers commented that my "Aero" sounded a bit rough.

Ok theyre similar, and the VS is the range equivalent of the Aero... But explaining the differences bored me.

The Morris minor is easy as everyone knows what it is.

Austin 1300... Depends on age. 40+ are fine as they all remember having one. Youth... 20-30s ... No fking clue!

"is it a mini?" or "oh the Harry potter car"

confused

When I had an e36 snotter, I was careful of saying what it was, as work colleagues started whining that I was paid far too much, and mates of mates would make smart arse "rich boy" comments.

It cost £750 FFS
