A friend of mine bought several Austin Metros (something like 6 of them) "trying to find a good one".

Sadly every single one of them drove like a Metro.

That is, assuming the GTi badge was real..

Er, what generation Golf GTi? MKIV onwards this was possible.

Also, there are a few MK1/MK2s out there with 1.8t conversions.

A very ratty Mk3. I realise any Golf could be a turbo but somehow I don't think this one was.

No Golf GTI has had a 'turbo' badge on it, only the Halfords specials wink

What I meant was that any could have had a turbo put on it. Although in the case of a wooshy sleeper, sticking a very kitsch turbo badge on the back is unlikely.
But on the subject of shcensoredty looking VW sleepers, youtubes the "beige beast", interesting car hehe

A female friend of mine had had a brand new car ordered for her (first car) and I was asking her a few questions about it. I asked "how big is your fuel tank?" and got the reply "errr... I think it's a 1.6!"

Classic!

You asked how big the fuel tank was? That's a little, erm, odd...

I dont think I could tell you how big the petrol tank was on my car, or any of the cars Ive owned! I can tell you how much it costs to fill up roughly or how many miles I get out of it but as to the actual capacity no real idea!

Same here. I could make a guesstimation, so I certainly wouldn't scoff at someone who had no idea and just quoted the number from the badge on the back smile

They got some deal where the fuel was paid for a year so we were talking about fuel and consumption etc...

I think 2/4 of mine are 50 odd litres, either 52/55/58 .. Other 2 are sub 40 litres!

Usually fill from empty (fumes) do good to know how far you can push it

Really? The amount you've put in is displayed fairly prominently on the pump, and tends to be on the receipt as well. Only takes filling it up from fumes once to find out.

Yeah the fact you asked her such a weird question kind of excuses her.

I dont look at the pump really. I just brim it when it gets to the low point. I realise its probably some sort of man law failure but the car tells me the economy if I want to check it.

I think its about 50 litres might be a bit more or a bit less.

It gets around 250 miles to a tank and 23 or so MPG but I dont really fuss about it.

I never bother . I never run my tank too low , scared or running out . If I am staying local I put in enough to keep me going . But if I was going long distance I brim it . I know what kind of mileage I will get
