I think 'running on fumes' is a good one for this thread.

Really? I've always seen it as a "turn of phrase" rather than being thick... I.e. said firmly with ones tongue touching ones cheek

"You drive a banger"

About my 106 GTi.

Yeah, it's old and too many charvs drive them, but it's probably one of my favourite handling cars.

That is just a phrase though, they don't actually believe it is running on fumes do they?..

I know what you mean, however a petrol engine is always running on fumes- petrol does not burn as a liquid.

You'd get that look from me too, since Nikasil's a coating used on linerless engines.

What are these then?

You're not that much of a geek.
Those are aluminium cylinder liners with a nikasil coating.

I'll grant you those are liners though!

Talking to a guy at work who'd just had some work done on his car at a local garage and he'd had a warning light on the dash, he was moaning about the charge for diagnostics.

I explained to him about modern electrics and told him i have an hand held machine for 'self diagnostic' work.

Ahh! he said, do you think you could plug it into my car and alter the revs a little, what do you mean i asked? 'when i'm doing 70mph it's doing xxx revs and if it was doing less i'd get more to the gallon.

Think you could come round and plug it into my car too? I'm after climate control, heated leather seats and bespoke 19 inch anthracite alloy wheels.

I for one found the comedy in someone called "custodian" telling people to set fire to children.

Just me then?

Oh.
