This was one I heard today, from a person who KNOWS how much I love things motorsport related

Annoying bugger: What you up to this evening then?
Me: Oh not much, I'm looking foward to watching the F1 as I missed it earlier.
Annoying bugger: Oh! My dad watches the formula, he said it was good because Hamilton won!!
Me: mad

I really was quite beside myself.
I had the same today. Family do:

Sebhaque: "Don't talk to me about F1! I don't want to know the result.
Family Member: "Of course. Hamilton won.
SH: "Why the fk would you say that? I wanted to watch the fking race.
FM: "I didn't understand."
SH: "Well it's the same as saying (FOOTBALL SPOILERS: LIV/NOR) that Liverpool won their match against Norwich 3-2.
FM: "There's no need to be a about it."
SH: "So don't spoil the F1 for me next time."
FM: "....okay"
It's very annoying isnt it!

Oh, and cheers for reminding me that I just put a spoiler out! DOH!!
A good friend of mine is equally rabid about his unsullied anticipation of a race already run. He once managed a whole week uninformed before watching due to work travel etc.

How long have you managed?

regards,
Jet
I managed months! When I was away out of the country I had my father tape them and not let on who won what.

I watched all the races over a weekend, and the result was fantastic. Button was world champion! biggrinbiggrin

Thanks for the spoiler, I've managed to maintain my ignorance of F1 for years in favour of real motor sport

Glorified stock car racing is hardly the pinnacle of motorsport, is it?!? I mean, in the proper races drivers have mastered NOT hitting each other...who'da thunk it, eh???

I was speaking to a colleague at work on Friday, she's a nice girl who has just brought a new car (well, 11 plate), she is really pleased with it (good for her, to be fair) but thinks its so much more than it is, originally she saw it at the dealership for £17,500 but after several weeks they dropped the price to £7,500. It's a Chevrolet Cruze - now, granted I don't know much about the Cruze, but I'm fairly sure hers wasn't spec'd up to £40,000 when new like she thinks - from what I saw it was completely bare bones interior, not even equipped with leather seats. Oh, and apparently it has the grunt and feel of a proper American muscle car.
I've driven a Cruze, muscle cars they are not. wink

Only because if they touch anything the car disintegrates. Give me BTCC, DTM or Superbikes any day. To me F1 is mind numbingly boring. And now the cars sound st too.

Very little contact in DTM or Moto GP either...just BTCC who think might is right and can replace talent.

BTW, I prefer tin tops as a rule myself...used to go to BTCC regularly but got fed up of the theatrics and boorish spectators.

Look at Massa's Williams and Alonso's Ferrari disintegrating after they bash wheels with enough force to get Massa's car off the ground in China yesterday:

The DTM is almost as boring as the F1. I don't want to see them crashing all the time but I don't want the opposite either. Currently some series rely on aero so much they are afraid of getting too close.

My GF's brother is learning to drive and says the car he's learning to drive in has a special kind of gearbox which makes it easier to change gear, called 'spring-loaded gears'. Apparently you don't have to move the gearstick in the pattern shown on the gear knob to move into the gears, just up and down. It's a manual and gearstick is simply returning to centre as almost all cars do. His instructor is telling him this like it's a special feature of his Hyundai i20. I get frustrated just listening to this ste rolleyes

I saw a driving school car travelling on a closed section of road in Croydon recently.

Driving instruction has really gone downhill,it's no wonder driving standards are so low.

Hit the nail on the head/couldn't agree more.
Some of the 'instruction' I've witnessed in the last 5 - 8 years defies belief.

I have never been able to understand people who will pay $40,000 for a $19,000 car, just because it has had a bit of bling added to the base shopping trolley.

It is still just a $19,000 bit of stuff, & no leather or satnav screen can make it otherwise.

Aussie V8s is where it's at.

Admittedly, that the cars are essentially a control silhouette racer does detract a little - but at least the various teams use their own manufacturer-sourced (or supplied) engines and 'boxes. Very strict regs with regards to engine, suspension and aero keep the racing close. 600 bhp, rear-wheel drive, spool differentials and no driver aids make the cars beasts to drive too. 32+ cars on track make for close racing and it's great to watch the likes of Winterbottom and Whincup when they're really on it.
