Stupid things non petrolheads say....
Discussion
For a thread entitled Stupid things non petrolheads say.... we seem to be getting bogged down quite heavily by a taxation policy debate and a mumsnet style household budget discussion.
Has no-one heard a non petrolhead say something ridiculous recently? If you, or anyone you know, has heard of any daft motoring related utterances, please post them in here. And soon! Otherwise, I fear this thread derailment will continue for so long that the thread title will be forgotten about completely.

Hasn't this thread lived up to it's name? Seeing as all the non-petrolheads are now talking about food?
Today I had;
them: "but that car you're looking at says it has no ABS"
me: "it's an old car, it's unlikely to have it, it's not a problem"
them: "oh I'd always have a car with ABS, I couldn't do without it"
me: "are you always emergency braking then?"
them: "no, ABS means you stop quicker"
me: "I'm sorry, you're too stupid to continue this conversation"
Edited: P/H because pedantry matters!

It is amazing how many people do not know what ABS is or how it works.
In some circumstances non-ABS will stop you quicker e.g. lock-up in snow and the snow builds up like a chock in front of the wheel.

Bloody hell, what do you buy?! We have budget of £50 per week for food (family of 3), very rarely spend all of it, and we eat very well...
I absolutely refuse to believe that.3 meals a day for 3 over a week is 63 meals.
So each meal is under £1 a head!!!!!!
And you eat "very well"...
Are you excluding say - school dinners, free food at work, family anorexia?

I've said this one before but I think it needs brought up again as it comes from an otherwise intelligent person.Has no-one heard a non petrolhead say something ridiculous recently? '...and a car engine has to weigh at least a tonne'
You fking what? Are you mental? The only thing worse than someone so ignorant is when it's coupled with extreme stubbornness.
Me: I fancy driving to South of France next year
Them: But you drive a Prius
Me:...and...?
Them: where would you plug it in?
Me: It's not a plug-in, and even that can run on engine alone without plugging in
Them: Won't you run out of electricity?
Me: It's not all electric
Them: But still, won't you run out of electricity?
Me: It recharges from the engine and from braking
Them: I guess the French use the same electricity as us so it should be ok
Me: ?

To add to this, a weekly shop of say, £150 for a normal family (4 people) comes to £600 per month, or 7,200 per year.
