People surely don't actually say that, do they?
I once was told by a friend of a friend that his 320Si M Sport was "between the M Sport and the M3". Whatever that meant I don't know, but he sure thought it was special. Not sure if required homologation for WTCC, or just a marketing excuse to link the model to WTCC, but it DID have a proper smattering of driver-focused goodies on it, even if only kicking out sub-200bhp.
Note this is the Si model only, not the 'cooking' M-sport.

Person at work asking about my car,
Him: is your car a subaru impreza?
Me: no it's a supra
Him: is that a subaru?
Me: it's a toyota

Exactly the same conversation I've had with several different people - quite often when talking about car insurance, or with garages! Him: is your car a subaru impreza?
Me: no it's a supra
Him: is that a subaru?
Me: it's a toyota
Him: *blank stare*

I was watching Police Interceptors (or whatever its called) and they were enthusing about a volvo estate that "tops out" at 130, and does 0 to 60 in "under 10 seconds".
So that will be the 1980's of slightly hot then
Was this a recent program or a 1980s rerun? Cos getting excited over 0-60 in under 10 seconds when most of the crooks have cars way faster than that seems odd.So that will be the 1980's of slightly hot then

Indeed. As havoc has said below, the 320Si wasn't just a 320i with a body kit.More details from Autocar below.

Only a bit.No exactly one under an M3 though...perhaps with M3 suspension...and a 6cyl.

I'd be interested to know why they would use a 6 cylinder 3l engine when the whole reason the Si was produced was to homologate a 4 cylinder engine block in a race series with a 2l displacement limit.
Been using my 993 Carrera a recently as it's been a bit neglected in favour of other cars, so have been going to work in it.
Pull into the work car park the other morning and park in a space. Leave it ticking over for a minute while I gather my things and then switch it off and get out.
Walking towards the office entrance and a middle aged woman I work with is also walking from her Ford Kuga.
Her: Oooh I like that one, haven't seen you in that before.
Me: Oh thanks, I don't really use it that much to be honest.
Her: There sounds like there is something wrong with the engine though.
Me: Erm, no, it's running fine.
Her: No, there's definitely something wrong. I was listening to it and I think it's got a misfire or something. It sounds rough.
Me: No it's fine, it's supposed to sound like that. They sound quite lumpy on tickover.
Her. No. There's definitely something wrong with it.
She walks off.
Bizarre conversation.

Well, they wouldn't for the Si, would they BUT, I was saying that to place a car "one under" an M3, it'd need to have a more potent engine such as a 6cyl that they've done such a good job with for years, not a poxy 2.0 NA better suited to a small hatchback than in a heavy saloon car. The article linked suggested it was a modern day E30 M3 but I disagree as nothing else is M.I'd be interested to know why they would use a 6 cylinder 3l engine when the whole reason the Si was produced was to homologate a 4 cylinder engine block in a race series with a 2l displacement limit.
I get that the TC was a 2.0, but keeping on track with the thread, the idiotic comment was that the Si was "between an M Sport and M3", suggesting he didn't know what an M Sport was in the first place (that it was a trim available on all models) and that an Si was really up there in the performance stakes, forgetting 25i, 30i and 35i.

When i turned up to work in my Excel after having bought it, one of my collegues goes "you will be forever buying tyres"
I was taken back, maybe he was a petrolhead i didnt know about? Excels dont have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ackermann_steering_ge...
So i thought he was refering to the outside wheel scuffing when cornering at low speed.
But no...
"They create so much grip that the tyres wear down"
Great...

To be fair, they sound broken to me as well. Pull into the work car park the other morning and park in a space. Leave it ticking over for a minute while I gather my things and then switch it off and get out.

I got the distinct impression the person i was talking to was probably imagining Jeremy Clarkson in an Elise doing burnouts, rather than basing his comment on anything factual Benbay001 said:

When I read that, I though "WTF? An Excel won't go through tyres that fast, surely?"I was taken back, maybe he was a petrolhead i didnt know about? Excels dont have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ackermann_steering_ge...

Then I realised you were probably talking Lotus, not Hyundai.
