This seems to be a common woman thing. There was a link to a Munsmet (sic to avoid them spotting it!)) thread about alloy wheels and a large number couldn't grasp the whole wheel/tyre/spare-wheel thing. It took ages to get through to Mrs CanAm when son's car had a puncture and the tyre was trashed.
Introduce her to the heavy commercial vehicle world of the 1960s. Split rims, tubes and flaps would blow her mind!

Unless I'm missing something, the only way I can see that doing 0-60 in 5 seconds is if its dropped from a high height.
Maybe talking in kph?

confused Maybe I guess, but wouldn't make much sense, since they're English.

It's quite amusing, my favourites were;

"Mine has a steering wheel and air freshener. Don't ask me about practicalities it's what mechanics are paid for XD"

"Short of the colour and the fact I know it drinks petrol rather than diesal, I couldn't tell you anything about my car."

Quite impressed that one lady pointed out, correctly, that steel wheels are also made of an alloy!

I was more surprised (well, actually not given this is mumsnet) about the one that took an hour to change a set of wheeltrims....

Maybe using the old "one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand ....." measurement of 0-60, that we all used to use to prove that our minis and supersports were a match for an RS turbo?

few of the ladies don't know how to change a tyre. Now that's above and beyond anyway, but changing a wheel should be basic knowledge.

From that Mumsnet thread:

"My car has alloys. 18inch Wolfrace alloys, to be precise. it also has low profile run flat tyres (which I know how to change). it also has a 3.2l naturally aspirated V6 engine with an uprated intercooler which pulls 308 bhp and has an average MPG consumption of 29 (if I'm careful!)

I, and many other "ladies", do know quite a bit more about our cars than just how to change a tyre....hmm"

Can't tell whether she's throwing out a whoosh parrott or just plain clueless? laugh

Huh?

For certain cars, yes, E Type Jaguar, or either way, z class/series Germanmanufacturer.

Surely for most, including Ferrari, it's manufacturer then car name.
I could see it for class/series but not for model... to me the naming convention is manufacturer then model....aaaanyway carry on.

To me it'll always be the Ferrari Enzo, much to the annoyance of the other chap. hehe
La Ferrari. Or even better, The La Ferrari anyone?
Stupid names, aren't they? That said, the car called Enzo has always been the Enzo Ferrari, not the Ferrari Enzo - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enzo_Ferrari_(automob... The successor to the Enzo is simply LaFerrari, not the LaFerrari or the Ferrari LaFerrari. Unless you're Clarkson and like calling it "The Ferrari the Ferrari". I wonder what LaFerrari owners refer to it as, given that they've all got garages full of other Ferraris...

Where the hell does an intercooler go on a NA engine?!

I think she is just saying she knows how to change a tyre, if she had a spare. Which she presumably doesn't!

At the front where they usually go; radiators are intercoolers. Terminological inexactitude rools K.O.

Or it might be bullst, who knows.

someone at my work just said they can get to 80 in 3rd gear in their 1.0L Corsa (i had one, it would barely do 80 in 5th wink ) didn't want to say anything to harm the guys ego as he was trying to show off to one of the Newbie girls here.

I just smiled to myself and carried on working smile
My 1.3 Astra will get to 80 in third. It's noisy, but it will do it. But then it doesn't have a limiter. They both probably have the same F10 transmission, so maybe! Doesn't make it fast, and comparing it to what it'll do in 5th is a bit of a mistake; particularly in this thread. smile

If she meant the radiator, why would it have been uprated?

If you tune an engine to produce more power there is an increase in the amount of waste heat that needs to be removed proportional to that power increase; the standard 'radiator' may not be up to the task.
