In a similar discussion with someone, they said they didn't know how old their car was but the registration started with a C and asked me how old that made it. I just said that made it Welsh, which just shows I know far too much about how registrations work.
Doesn't C-reg make it about 30 years old? wink

On the contrary, Walm is correct, C Prefix plates are around 30 years old, wink smiley notwithstanding.

C suffix plates are a touch older than that smile

C prefix new style, where the age identifier is the double digit number, indicates that the car has been registered in Cardiff (I am guessing, I know L is London and D is Staffordshire, I'm not inclined to look up 'C', but have seen lots in Cardiff smile).

Yes sorry was getting my three Mk1 Cortina's mixed up. I had a pre-facelift 1964 and two facelift 1966, the 1966's were D reg.

The C is actually for all of Wales, and stands for "Cymru".

As in maybe I should be a WWE fan boi, and take time off work to watch pay per view wrestling, to fit in with the locals.

My car gets washed every week, by me, by hand. I hate dirty cars. There is much pleasure to be had from the reflections in a well maintained paint job on a nice car.

It takes 45 mins to wash and wax it. It's not exactly a long time. Leave if for months and it takes much longer and the very act of washing it is more likely to damage the paint.
45 mins a week is still 2% of your usable time per year, less if you include work. I'd rather not do it every week.

My boy's mum's neighbour commented on my supercharged MX5 "That's a bit of a girls car isn't it?" (smirk smirk)

This week he's out polishing his new (to him) 206CC
So you're both hairdressers? At least you have something in common! smile
one of the most powerful and portable hair driers you can buy :P
biggrin

I'd love to stick a supercharger or turbo on mine! How much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking?
V8 it...

On a related note, my wife's hairdresser is a massive petrol head and sees the irony in the fact he used to own an MX5 biggrin I go along to her hair appointments so I can sit and chat cars while he cuts her hair hehe
I am tempted, but the normal LS3 and whatnot are starting to become commonplace enough that there's even kits out there to do it...

That's too common for me, so I'm looking at other options smile

Something like a Climax FWMV 1500cc V8 screamer would be more inkeeping with the light, peppy nature of an MX5 - if you could find one.... scratchchin

Cool engine.

That makes 4bhp more than a 2.0 MX-5, and will probably need rebuilt significantly more often.

TBH the wankel from the RX-8 is pretty much the ideal engine for the MX-5, and I'm kinda surprised they never put them in at the factory.
The Coventry-Climax FWMV 1500cc V8 produced over 200bhp in its latter years, but was designed for cars weighing 450kg. A Screamer, as you say CC, but not an ideal engine for a road car. The "light" MX5 weighs considerably more than that and in 2 litre form seems to be around 160bhp. I guess you meant to type 40bhp, not 4, Doogz

But in my case, I already have 225bhp, so wouldn't see such an engine as an 'upgrade'

I have some ideas, but there's a lack of definitive information on physical dimensions of engine (from sump to top of head for for example) and height is the major limitation on the '5. That's why the LS3 is a popular choice, as being pushrod, it's not as tall as some of the alternatives

Probably be rebuilding a wankel quite frequently too.

ETA: wankel engine has never been a success. NSU used it in the 70`s in the Ro80 & Mazda have sort of stuck with it over the years but it always seems to be the Rotor Tips that fail & repair is expensive.
