What about the 80's biturbo v6?
Not that much more powerful than what I have in there now
My references say 279 hp / 317 ftlb for the 24 valve 2.8 (stock).

Still expensive, & not v8 performance, but I doubt you'd see another one biggrin

If I machined a new crank pulley, I could get 250bhp out the existing lump

I had considered such an engine, if I'm honest, but it just didn't seem like enough of an increase to justify the amount of work, despite the novelty value

An aftermarket blower? I didn't think the 320 came as a Kompressor

The 230 Kompressors are less powerful than what I have now I think?

And it's cut into, not only the bulkhead, but the skuttle below the windscreen and, it looks like, even the windscreen surround

I like that I keep mine looking at least a little bit standard

Don't worry, it was supercharged in the SLK32 AMG and C32 AMG.

Oh, and the Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6

I'm not worried, I installed a blower on the stock MX5 engine, I could do it on something else too smile

The Coventry-Climax FWMV 1500cc V8 produced over 200bhp in its latter years, but was designed for cars weighing 450kg. A Screamer, as you say CC, but not an ideal engine for a road car. The "light" MX5 weighs considerably more than that and in 2 litre form seems to be around 160bhp. I guess you meant to type 40bhp, not 4, Doogz
The 2.0 made around 170bhp in yankee format, and the FWMV was originally rated at 174bhp, so I did mean 4bhp.

Would be fun I guess, but there are many engines I'd put the time and effort into fitting to an MX-5 that'd be more suitable, more powerful, lighter, or cheaper, before one of them.
I've no idea what you mean by "yankee format" nor where you got your figures from, but you are way, way out on the power output. The old 4-cylinder 1.5 litre FPF was producing about 170bhp in 1961, the 1.5 litre FWMV over 200bhp and the 2-litre Tasman version of the V8 something in excess of 250bhp.
All totally irrelevant in this context as the FWMV is virtually unobtainable, hideously expensive and totally unsuitable for a road car.

Can this thread be renamed 'stupid things petrolheads say'? Jeez you could lose the will to live reading the last couple of pages.

From there. Was the first hit when I googled “Climax FWMV Power”

And yankee format, apologies, I meant the US spec 2.0 MX-5, which came with a 170bhp version of the MZR engine.

As you say, pointless though.
Sorry Doogz, I misunderstood you and thought you meant 170bhp for the 2.0 Climax. Thanks for the Imp link. The 174 figure they quote would have been useless in 1962 and is more like the output of their old 4-cylinder motor.

Gave some colleagues a lift in the RR the other day - one remarked "It must have a big engine, this? What is it, a 1.6?"
When I told him it was a 4.4 his head nearly exploded hehe

It's a sad state of affairs when 1.6-2.0L is considered "big".
