It's the only outlay they actually notice, so their small minds associate fuel consumption with running costs, completely ignoring the rather sizeable pachyderm that is depreciation...

Diesels are great for overtaking.

Are they fk. They give you just enough confidence to commit then once alongside the overtakee it becomes painfully apparent that the engine has already shot its load and you're in that ponderous region where it's too limpwristed to rev much higher but it's not really time for a gearchange either.

At the filling station today. While refuelling the RX8.

Guy walks over: That's a rotary engine in there is it?
Me: (slightly warming to the subject) Yes it is.
Guy: They drink a lot of petrol don't they.
Me (slightly cooling to the subject) yes they do tend to use a quite a bit.
Guy: A chap up the road from me had one.

I looked away to put the nozzle back on the pump. Turned back and he had walked off again.

What the fk is this obsession non petrolheads have with fuel consumption.
To be fair us rotary owners take fuel consumption to another level smile

What does this button do? Is it the turbo button?

A former colleague once said to me while giving her lift in my newly acquired (10 years ago) EP3 Type R.

She was pointing at the button for the hazards

Bloke at work last night thinking his C-Max is faster than my Swift Sport because it has slightly more horsepower... Never mind the weight difference and 3 second 0-60 difference!

I had a mate tell me i spent way too much money on a partial retoration of my dolomite, (bought for £400, road worthy for £100, £800 on extra bits like paint) immetatly after he got a 14k fiesta ST and spent £800 on the 'style package', ie painted wheels a specific grey and brake calipers red, then chipped a wheel on a rock and bought a new wheel for $800+paint.

would wind me up to no end.

what he suggested was get an ST like his, in his mind was cheaper as his was £140 a month for 2 years. his was £14k wih £5k knocked off for trading in "his" white base model fiesta his dad bought him. hes now getting a 6 yo 3 series with 300bhp for 18k laugh me and his mates aer all ready saying hel be backwards into a tree before a year of owning it

Here's one

People who's friend gets a rear wheel drive car and all they can say is 'you'll be backwards into a tree within a year' like no ones ever managed to successfully go from a front to a rear wheel drive car without going backwards into a tree

I had it when I bought my MX5 and shock horror I never ended up backwards or in a tree

its more to do with the fact hes a cocky dick who thinks he can handle a 300hp rwd car because he could "drive" a 200bhp fwd car as he hasnt crashed it yet. i drive a rdw car, mind you its got only 72 bhp from new and its 40 yo and i out braked myself and rear ended someone. its more the person than the car.
