Not exactly stupid though is it if you don't yet own a house
Large percentage of Germans rent, they do fine.
Germany have rent regulation and superior tenant protection.

I do wonder what is going to happen to all "the renting is fine" crowd when they retire, realise they have a piss poor pension and can no longer afford to rent even a room on the house they have been living in.

At the filling station today. While refuelling the RX8.

Guy walks over: That's a rotary engine in there is it?
Me: (slightly warming to the subject) Yes it is.
Guy: They drink a lot of petrol don't they.
Me (slightly cooling to the subject) yes they do tend to use a quite a bit.
Guy: A chap up the road from me had one.

I looked away to put the nozzle back on the pump. Turned back and he had walked off again.

What the fk is this obsession non petrolheads have with fuel consumption.
To be fair us rotary owners take fuel consumption to another level smile
yes Talking to RX-8 owners always made me feel good about my Chimaera's 19mpg..

Probably the same thing that'll happen to those poor folks who are paying interest only with no consideration for any 'vehicle' to repay the capital loan I guess

People who's friend gets a rear wheel drive car and all they can say is 'you'll be backwards into a tree within a year' like no ones ever managed to successfully go from a front to a rear wheel drive car without going backwards into a tree

I had it when I bought my MX5 and shock horror I never ended up backwards or in a tree
Let's be honest, there's not really enough power in an MX-5 for that to happen.

I've had people ask if my Caterham is rear wheel drive and if it's petrol or diesel.

'Timing belts are better than chains because they give you more torque and last the life of the engine'. That was a comment underneath a Guardian motoring article, which are an excellent source of 'stupid things non-petrolheads say'.

"Robin Reliant" Moron, it's a Reliant Robin. Jasper Carrot used to make jokes about the little plastic nonsenses and thought it ever more amusing to swap the names about, but now every moron and it's dog thinks that this is the vehicle's actual name.... Doh !

Sometime in the late '90s a mate and I were at a small car gathering in his MG Maestro 2.0I.

A young chap came up to him and said "Ooh, a two litre injection. When does the injection kick in mate?"

My mate - "Err, when I switch the engine on."

Diesels are great for overtaking.

Are they fk. They give you just enough confidence to commit then once alongside the overtakee it becomes painfully apparent that the engine has already shot its load and you're in that ponderous region where it's too limpwristed to rev much higher but it's not really time for a gearchange either.
take it you haven't driven a 3.0 Audi diesel? Especially the bi turbo

Well I managed. Booted it in 2nd whilst turning left off a roundabout in the wet with st tyres. Broke traction no bother.
Luckily I only damaged my ego.

One of my wife's MX5s had a habit of giving a nasty twitch in similar circumstances - think it was their first attempt at a limited-slip diff. Recent iterations don't do it.

Its amazing what a little bit of a torque will do the mess with people's perceptions.

Turbo diesels are the premature ejaculation in the world of power delivery. You get all excited, there's a pleasant spurt and then you need to wait a while until you can attempt it again.

I blame the driving instructors myself. They all seem to be using diesels around here, seems kids don't realise that cars rev beyond 2,000 rpm hence they drive petrol cars within the same limits and think they are slow.
