I feel your pain....I've just sold my 100hp for just £2,900 - hardly seems worth it.

What's it being replaced with?

Skoda Superb Greenline (Company car also) *sob*

I'm already thinking about cheap weekend toys to stop me from hanging myself
It's not that bad. Handles surprisingly well for a big car, it's taut and well balanced. In fact, I'd go as far to say it's almost on a par with the latest model 3 series in the handling dept. I'd guess the 1.6 diesel engine is merely adequate though.

Just to stop me looking at it hehe
Well, if "the budget" can run to a C-Class Coupe it must be able to run to this.

Stands to reason.

Nice car, but hmmmm. aircon "needs regas". Or perhaps a load of work to convert it from the old R12 system.
Not at all. You can re-gas R12 and R134a systems with RS-24 gas.

An idiot on MSE came out with this today.

I keep my car in good condition, however I'm no mechanic, so I dont really know what is going on under the bonnet and under the car. could be punctured exhaust and I would be none the wiser. But it should be fine.

I think what irritates me is the way non-petrolheads state things blindly as if they are fact and are so cocksure about it. If I don't know about a subject, I will not make statements, I will ask questions. Also somebody once told me that the "TC" in Rover 2200 TC stood for Twin Cam. I just bit my tongue.

ETA: I think what I'm trying to say is that it's ok if you don't know about cars, but for god's sake, don't look like a tt and spout nonsense about a subject that you know nothing about.

Sums up the thread quite well, really.

Of course it is fine if someone knows nothing about cars - there are plenty of things I don't have the first clue about. It is when these people start boldly stating "facts" that are complete BS, and the worst thing is some people listen to them!

Still, there are some funny things that they come out with! I do feel like a right anorak for picking up on them and laughing at them though...

The women in the same office as me are a constant source of entertainment, today's was a 50+ mother of one babbling on for over 45 minutes about why she hated her low paying job because it meant she had to drive such an uneconomical car that was so expensive to run.

Wow I think..

Until she says:

"yeah it's a 1.0 corsa on a 2002 plate... Ready for the scrap heap... Done 45k miles"

banghead

Not had it serviced for 4 years, runs mis-matched part worn rubber. Has never washed it. But pays a garage to put screen wash in it as its "complicated"

Then went on to admit she forgot her MOT for over 2 years as she did t realise cars needed them

How did she tax it then?

I think there's a big assumption in your question.

Or MOT and tax at the same time. Next year tax but before the old mot runs out, just. Then year after wonder why you can't re-tax. Not 2 years without an mot but 2 years since it had its last one

Talking to a friend's dad the other day, who has had a 911 amongst other things so is a petrol head of sorts. He's a great chap but comes out with some classics:

He: "One thing that makes me laugh is when people fit those weird clutches to Imprezas"

Me: -a litte confused- "You mean paddle clutches? Clutches are a bit of a weak point on Imprezas"

He: "No, those air-assisted ones. Pneumatic or something"

Me: -very confused- "Oh right, never heard of that before"

He: "Yeah, loads of them have them. You can hear them whoosh every time they change gear"

hehe
