Reading the Facebook promo feed for the Jag XE, the number of 'it's a re-badged Mondeo' comments. Yeh, rear drive, aluminium bodied, Indian owned, just like a Mondeo.

"You have a sports car, you must be earning too much"
"I earn exactly the same as you"
"Yeah but you've got a two seater"

Usually best not to mention I have another car at home...

I used to hear the Mondeo thing a lot, I asked which Mondeo the 3.0 X type was based on, and was told "The 4WD one..."

Really can't argue with that.

It's an auto. If she presses down on the accelerator it'll change up at eleventy squillion revs; she probably changes up at 2,000 revs if driving a manual, so it will seem really fast compared to what she is used to.

I'd counter that with, "The company must value me more than you."

I've got a feeling a few Mk1 Mondeo 4wds got made too.

Aero will be worse though, I seem to recall seeing a test once that quoted about 1mpg worse on the motorway. Can't remember the car mind.

I use the term "merit based pay" quite often.

Yes indeed that's the one. The 2001 X-Type was based upon the 2015 Mondeo platform, this thread was really made for you wasn't it?

And as for Mk1 Mondeos being 4WD, I'm waiting with baited breath for that link, care to share???

Quite, especially when the 4x4 MK1 Mondeo exists.... it was available from 1993 in 2.0 16v saloon and estate.

Actually that's reminded me. Within the bowl of piss that was the Jaguar XE launch musical, I remember the hipster fktards going on about how they were going to make a car that got the most MPG... No mention of speed, or performance, or grace pace and space.

Sad really.

yea that Jag XE isn't a Mondeo at all. It's a bland, stly built, poor quality, substandard and probably terribly depreciating bucket of jizz that everyone will be frantically beating one off into, because it's a novelty rather than because it's any good. Probably. However at least Mondeos are half decent for what they are and the price they're on sale at.

I predict a million non-petrolheads (and probably some petrolheads) will be waxing lyrical about how amazing it is, and it will be all over the roads. Market values will tell the tale though.

Bitter? Yes I am.

He does the same job as me, he earns exactly the same as me and everybody else who does our job at this site.
For reference the car cost me £2k, I'm loaded.

It's all relative and depends what she's used to. The 1.8 is 139hp so should be relatively quick, that is more power than the MKII Golf GTI 16V remember.

Biggy Shackleton said:
'Why don't you buy something more practical?'

- From people who've only ever owned entry-level hatchbacks during their entire driving career, and have probably never done anything interesting, daring or exciting in their entire lives - and think you should be the same.
Plenty of people buy cars based on looks and pay no attention to practicality until they realise it can't do all they need. Like a friend of mine that is struggling to find somewhere to put her race bike on an 06 reg Beetle. A Jazz and Civic with their magic seat were both suggested and ignored, either would have suited her better.

Same power surely.... But I bet it weighs a lot, the auto box sapping power etc.

I knew I'd heard of the Mk1s & just found the above link when googling for them.

Besides if FeelingLucky didn't believe he actually has a Mondeo, would he care about all this? wink

Considering it's an RX7 MPG isn't really at the top of the list :P
