Technology pah - even after 'bleeping' I check one front door, 1 back door and the boot are locked...

Also have to check the house front door at least twice before I am happy that it is locked.

OCD - me?
Yeah, I have the same habit - which is great on most cars but totally and utterly useless on the new one with keyless entry because as soon as you try one of the doors, it unlocks again! I have to check for the one teeny little red LED in the drivers door. smile

However, my agonised cry of "Doh!" that reverberates around the car park at work when I do this every. single. day. appears to amuse my colleagues somewhat so that's OK.
Story.. We had a customer come in to us telling us the car was broken (2 days old) because it wasn't locking when he locked it, it was unlocked straight away again when he tried the handle.

Yes sir, thats right it is.

Well, its broken.

No sir its not.

It is!

No..

It took my absolutely ages, like 20 tries of opening doors and all sorts to get my car to lock last night in Knightsbridge; it never occurred to me that there might have been someone jamming it up nearby - I wonder.
use the key ?

If locked with fob previously this will set off the alarm will it not?

You an I have basically the same car, but you can also just watch for the indicators to flash surely? Although I too check for the red light when I lock the drivers door, but that's never a problem because surely you are always standing next to it when you do actually hit the lock button on the handle?
Yep, I also stand and watch the mirrors automatically fold in - all obvious signs the car has correctly locked itself. I then double check by lifting a handle.........

That is rather xenophobic. Romania has a old, diverse and interesting culture. Some Romanians are thieves, but in no greater proportion of the population than any other nationality.

Maybe not in Romania, but the proportion engaged in card cloning etc is higher then it should be...

Dint even know if anyone knows that the Romanian people are not indeed gypsies . I broke down in Romania and the experience was pleasant .

Apparently , when Romania wanted to join the eu , one of the conditions imposed by uk, France and Germany was that the Romas get passports .

what will the car care which method is used to lock/unlock it?

What happens if the batteries in the fob die?

Thats better.

Bit like the Pikeys, the Irish hate them as much as everyone else, and from what i understand Romanians dislike the Roma similarly too.

This makes for very interesting reading. Although my other halfs Corrado G60 is only worth a couple of grand, people may steel anything

We went to Wembley Stadium last night for a concert, not wanting to pay £30 for the official parking spaces, we decided to give the random marshalled parking a try, all around the industrial estate around the stadium. I didnt like the look of it, and the fact that all the people taking money werent the most confidence inspiring people (if you understand what I mean). But, the Toad alarm/immobiliser was being a pain, locked up ok, but when we went to leave (and there were people hanging around then), it took 10 minutes to unlock the car, pressing the button did nothing until 'beep', it did it

I saw the exact same thing on a BBC programme for the life of me I cant remember the title it was presented by Dominic Littlwood.

In London people were having items taken from their cars at nighttime when they thought they were locked. It turns out that when they pressed the central locking that these people were nearby and using the jammers and as such the lights on the car would flash indicating that the car was locked but the central locking did not engage meaning the doors could be opened. A lady caught some people on her CCTV going through her car in the middle of the night when she thought it was locked.

The scum usually take sat navs and anything else they can get their grubby little paws on.

This would not have happened if you had shopped at Waitrose.

Most modern cars auto lock within seconds of walking off even if you forget to lock it via the fob (or it gets jammed). Think it's to do with Thatcham approval.

Slightly off topic, but I was parked near a Z3 (I have a late E36) and my fob was unlocking and locking the Z3 as well as my own. Never had this happen before.

Interesting about the possibility of a jammer though - luckily my locks are so loud that you can hear them lock the otherside of the car park paperbag

I don't know.

But I know that if you lock one of our cars here with the fob and then unlock the doors with the key the alarm goes off.

Start the engine with the key and the alarm stops.

My one concern is that people don't look or listen that their car is locked/locks. In alot of cases these crimes happen because people 'presume' that pressing the button means that their car is locked without bothering to double check.
