RE: First Official Pics: New BMW 6 Series Coupe

Bland IMO. Nice interior though.
As someone else said at least the previous version was distinctive. This one in profile reminds me of a Pug 407 coupe.
Whoever compares this 6 with the Pininfarina designed 406 coupe clearly needs their eyes tested. Regardless of what they're worth now they are still a styling masterclass and future classic. Can't really see this happening with this Beemer.

BMW's all crap - looks like a 3 series on steriods and front looks like a face with a few dodgy teeth at the front - each to their own I supose
Needs to be an icon depicting simian knuckle draggage.

The proprtion of praise in this thread is far higher than in the introduction threads to the Bangle models seven years ago, so it looks like a success for BMW.
The most amusing thing is the people who prefer the E60 and E63 to the new F models. It would be amusing to dig back through the years and see whether any of these are the ones who preferred the E39 to the E60.
For me, the E60 is a design that has never dated. Its principal faults were the "Dame Edna" eyebrows and the view onto the rear corner that made the car look dumpy from some angles. The new 5 looks very good to me.
The E63 I always found more problematic. The front end looked droopy with the lights below that horizontal line (M6 looked better, but still not quite right) and, like the old 7 Series, the boot design was just awful. This new 6 Series is a big improvement. The side and rear views clearly echo the CS concept. I'm not entirely sold on the front end, but it's an improvement on the last one.
The success of the Bangle designs is evident from the way they haven't dated and from the influence on competitors. For some mad reason, the S Class copied the old 7 Series bootlid design and, less madly, its dashboard.

I hated the "Bangle era". BMW's are about menacing presence, not "flame surfacing" b*ll*cks and unresolved shapes and lumps. It took at least 5 years for the last 5 and 6 series to grow on me and then this was only in M guise where the bodykit and alloys helped add back the much needed aggresion (the V10 was also a big help in overcoming some of the quirky looks)
This one looks instantly better. Not perfect but my initial reaction is at least 100 times more positive which means by the time the M6 is out it will be stunning. I can imagine a black M6 version looking positively evil (as it should). Just a shame they got rid of the V10 which was a unique selling point for these cars for a while. I'm sure the new V8's will be a peach but it's just not quite the same.
Still chalk me up as very interested in the M version.

I have always been a fan of the 6 series but stopped short of buying one due to the back end. This however gets my vote and will certainly be on the short list come new car time in January.
+1 - am in the pre-order Q for July 2011 deliveries; had previous 645Ci - only bit I didnt totally like was the fron - too low/sloopy. This new front much stronger. Also agree with the Soarer comment - that was buggin' me too...Car design = V subjective
Good to see standards maintained on PH - "front wouldnt even puke over" "car is cr*p blah blah blah"
Just wouldnt be the same without yoos guys....
Now this is what the new 6er should have looked like, I was so looking forward to the six series and was sooo disapointed when it came out. I still have my e24 M6 and will always get more attention than any of the latest 6ers.
No doubt the new one will look better in the flesh than on "paper" but still cant quite bring myself to like the new models.
Hi,
here it is last year before it underwent some err upgrades. Its an 89 shadow hiline (with 1990's Azev alloys!)but now with an s38 3.8 motor and 285 box from e34 M5 and a Fritz bits stainless manifold.
It has new sport bilsteins 25mm lowered, 840 ali control arms, poly bushes, thicker front and rear arb's.
Just a few more jobs to finish before its back on the road. The aim is to give it a little more performance and better handling without loosing the original feel and ride and more importantly it got to be usable, so it will look good but not be concourse!
