Yea, Richards alright his mechanic Dave is very knowledge guy too, espesially on some of the engine swaps they do. I'm currently contemplating removing the phlenum and maf sensor and using a mappable aftermarket ecu along with a new air filter. This will give me a liile more room in the engine bay for things like the abs etc and save a little weight without affecting the performance or drivability. I'm told the sound of the S38 with a less restrictive exhaust and air filters is amazing.
Call me a heathen but I have also removed over 50kg of aircon and headlamp wipers (but not the washers), I never use them so why carry them around?
I have owned the car for well over 10 years and it fits me like a pair of old slippers, so rather than cough up for another new motor I'm spending the money on my old sixer. (thought about calling her Christine, the chasis number ends in 666 ?!)

Why is it that the 80's 6 series was a great looking car, no apologies, but the newer ones need some sort of justification?

The current car is better looking than the last one, and in the designer techno-speak world may be a massive leap, but it does nothing for my dopamine levels....

Re the new one, one of the mags carry some other pics and I have to say, it looks quite superb; in a dark colour, over here. Non photogenia running riot, afaic and it's a genuine condition which afflicts quite a few motors.

That I certainly agree with. I'm not sure whether it's the current fashion in photography or what, but press photos really don't show off shapes well at all.

I freely admit to being completely wrong on my initial opinions of the Scirroco (sp?), and a few other cars, based only on looking at their first photos. Subsequently pictures by mags etc are much, much better at showing off the cars.

I think this will look really very nice in the metal, albeit possibly a touch conservative.

I agree 100%. The new car is a generic mess. The front end is very poor. This is strong, aggressive, and individual. Moreover it looks like a BMW.

yes, dave knows his stuff too. last time i was down there they were struggling to find a fault on an 850csi though. it's your car, have it how you like. good to know someone is out there treating it like it should be. my car will be going down to fritz's some time during the winter for a few bits and bobs.
