RE: Paris: New BMW 6 Series
Discussion
I think people expect too much. Its basically a 2 door 5series, is it not, so should be up against stuff like the e-class coupe or the A5- in which case i think this looks miles better.
BMW needs some kind of halo car, like the R8 or SLR, ie another 8series,M1,Z8 kind of thing above the 6 series in the lineup. They keep giving us oodles of X-series cars and the GT thing, why cant they just have one car thats a big special? Ive always liked big coupes, so had a soft spot for the 6series, but its not a supercar or anything, even if the M6 has a supercar engine, so expecting it to be something special is a bit much.

Couldn't agree more. BMW need a new M1, more or less in the mould of the Merc SLS: same engine as the big saloons but in a slinky lightweight body.BMW needs some kind of halo car, like the R8 or SLR, ie another 8series,M1,Z8 kind of thing above the 6 series in the lineup. I think the old 6 was "interesting" even if it wasn't my cup of tea. this is about as interesting as an unsharpened pencil.
Or as interesting as your bleatings from the Valleys. One of the truly amazing realities concerning the current M6's crushing brilliance arises from the transformation to lithe, surface skimming missile when you engage Sulu mode and abuse the bugger.
I've compared the sense of what feels like a sort of 'lightened oversteer dance' across a nice bit of black top to the handling sensation delivered by my R400 which sounds superficially absurd but after numerous sorties is in fact, a defining, automotive DNA link and helps me identify aspects of the drivercentric sensibilities between the two and is one huge reason why I'm so smitten.
Once that molten vat of screaming fission is doing its worst, the effect is to create a balance just the right side of potentially twitchy which is so redolent of all the best cars I've ever dribbled over.
It's a balance between power and weight which seems to be a rolling bullseye of exploitable hedonism and in truth, feels impossibly light and equally wieldy.
That's just the reality, mind...

Hmmmmm.
Just needs the 4.4TT V8, a subtle chin spoiler and gold war paint.
Buchloe - Get your finger out.
NO! Buchloe Drop the V12TT in it and then we'd have the B12 Bi-Turbo!!Just needs the 4.4TT V8, a subtle chin spoiler and gold war paint.

Lots and lots of tree.
