I've looked at it for ages, and i just can't figure out how the roof on the Elite is going to work. It's supposed to have a folding hardtop? Well...
I can't see how that roof panel and rear screen assy are going to hide away whilst maintaining it as a 2+2.
I'm a design engineer by trade, and i just can't see it. Can anyone else?
Perhaps they will offer a 2+2 fixed-top and a 2 seater retractable. Otherwise I can't see where pieces can be stowed.I can't see how that roof panel and rear screen assy are going to hide away whilst maintaining it as a 2+2.

I like the look of them all and would happily have any of them, none of these models would have surprised me if they'd come from any other manufacturer... just didn't expect it from Lotus. I personally think they've lost sight of what's been their main bread and butter car, based on the Elise. Lightweight, low-ish powered engines with sharp handling and quick performance. They were simply superb at that key product.
But now they're directly competing against Porsche, Aston, et al with higher power car with extra weight (optimistic weights IMO). Also I can't see the new Elise starting at ~£25k can you? So that surely alienates all the enthusiasts that have bought all the Elise variants.
Great cars from what I can see... just can't see where they're heading.
Their 'bread and butter' lightweight cars have been making them losses for years. Re the Elites roof. look on the Lotus website, there is a video of the Elite dropping its roof on there.
Well batter my balls and call me Susan.I can see it in the video, but i still think you must be left with zero boot space. There just isn't the space in the back of that car to store it, and 2 seats in the back.
Also - the computer graphics looked very Gran Turismo 5 in that video, i wonder if the new cars will be in it as concepts?

And I can't quite believe they've only just brought out the Evora to such fanfare and then they're showing they'll go in a completely different direction only a few years later.
How many Evoras have you seen on the road?Thought not.

I honestly think the Esprit looks better than a Gallardo and the new McLaren.
I agree, as much as I love LP560 styling, I think the Esprit finds the perfect balance between smooth lines and angular ones. Both being better looking than the MP4-12C, but I'm growing ever increasingly unfond of the Mclaren.I really can't praise these new Lotus designs enough, as long as they don't do a Noble and price it out of place with the competition like with the M600, then I think new Lotus will be very successful.
They look like they have lost the point of the Elise. It should be a track car for the road, not a comfortable sports car.
How does that range plan to bypass the Euro 5 emissions regulations? Surely an independent car manufacturer selling solely sports cars must have to introduce some small eco city car (Aston Cygnet for example)

Nice to see James May has the power to change our language Get your facts straight.
Not sure you'd want him associated with any brand.

That's a very limited market for the Elise, a sports car is a much better proposition. Caterhams/Westfields/Atoms/Radicals fit the track car for the road profile but are such niche models that will struggle to make money for a larger company. How does that range plan to bypass the Euro 5 emissions regulations? As for the emissions issue - Lotus-badged Protons perhaps?
Not particularly keen on any of them, prefer the current Elise & Evora, the Elan looks like a more bland Evora, its ok. The 4 door is pig ugly, not keen on the Elise changes.
It just appears Lotus has jumped ship from the added lightness ideal and joined the rest of the bling & power is all producing masses. Before long you won't tell a Lotus from an Audi.
