Dead on from the front it looks great and dead on from the back it looks great. Take it from any other angle though and it looks just like any other Audi released in recent times.

The arches need to be boxier to pull it off I think. At the moment, it's a stretched A3/squashed A5 with a nose job and arse lift.

Front half looks great but as said from any other angle it looks horrible. It just reminds me of a squashed A5.

Front = Maxxed something (agree with the GT-R comment)
Rear = looks an old Mazda 323 to me
Sides = current A5

Dont understand what this will be concept of, or what design elements can be taken from it for next product. Has no identity. Have URQ 20v 1990 in Tornado....which does.

I have an Audi A5 and this looks nothing like it like some of you keep on saying.

I love this quattro too.

Of course car designs within the car family are going to remain synonymous...thats the same with all marques.

This is a much better way for a car company to play on it's past heritage.

Take a few styling cues from the original (in this case ur quattro) and wrap them into a handsome cutting edge design. This is (for me at least) much more preferable than regurgitating a design of yesteryear such as Mini, VW Beetle etc.
And if it has the 5cyl engine - or most importantly that soundtrack we all know and love from the previous quattros - it will be very hard to resist.

(Yes, I know the TT RS has the stright-five soundtrack, but still looks a bit effete IMH.)

Can anyone else see a strong Corrado resemblance in the rear quarters and the rear, it even has a pop up spoiler biggrin

I love it.

Assuming Martin Smith is too busy at Ford to help out, here are some hints for Audi:

  • Box out the wheel arches more.
  • Lose the HORRIBLE radiator the size of Ingolstadt and rice splitter. Quattros should look aggressive, this just makes it look like a basking shark.
  • Flatten the 'hump' that makes it look like a Corrado (or squashed A5) and give the tail a kick-up.
  • Make the wheels look at least something like the original Ronal alloys.
  • Move the rear lamp clusters to more vertical units at the side of the car, so they don't look like Aston rejects.
  • Smoke the rear lamp clusters.
  • Vents at the base of the 'C' pillar.
  • Not a pillarless design.
  • Decent rear spoiler, not some suble 'blade'.

As an owner of an original Ur-Quattro, that does nothing for me.

  • This* is a quattro!

The Rally version is OK, although it could never be on the road like that as it breaks most legislation.

Try again Audi IMHO!

This car looks awful! If it had a daihatsu badge instead of the four rings people would look at it with disgust

Not really convinced at all...and i was mega excited when i saw the headline. It just looks a bit err..wrong? and squashed.

I think they could have probably done a better job if they had just made a really aggressive looking, boxed-arch A5 Coupe with a mental turbo engine and a proper (not Haldex) AWD system.

The proportions of this look very strange in pics.

Saw the headline, got all excited, looked at the pictures, yawned, woke up a few hours later face down in the keyboard.

I agree with the squashed A5 comments. The A5 is a handsome and purposeful looking motor, but something claiming to be the next generation quattro should really stand out from the rest of the Audi range. It should be a no holds barred rally attack weapon.

Sadly, i too await the TDI S-Line 140ps, 2wd version. Meh.

Looks great.

Isn't there a hint of Corrado in that rear 3/4s view?
I was just about to post that it looked like the bastid love child of an A5 and a Corrado (Thankfully I took a quick read through first)
