Nice one Beef - enjoyed the honest tone of your review. Now bring it up to Scotland and get some proper pictures. You just don't have the scenery down south to do that magnificent car justice!

You're so right. It's ugly down here.

Cheddar Gorge, I think. (I just googled some places I thought might have nice scenery)

Point taken.

However, this is more like SLS scenery.

(I might add, I'm not a rabid Scot - actually from Yorkshire. Just resident up here.)

Out of interest, how practical are those doors? i.e. could you get in and out if someone parked next to you in an average car park space????

They're pretty good actually. I think they sweep out about 10" which is much less than a conventional door.

Have to be careful with low ceilings though...

I've just been to view one that I have an option on.

I would want to use it everyday.

Realistically, do you think this would be possible?

Absolutely, yes. And I'm very jealous. What colour/interior/spec?

As an example - I pulled into a carpark in the SLS, and the only available space was the end one, with a curb next to it.

Poo, thinks I.

So start to pull in, massive long nose ahead, no idea where the large expensive wheels are, as I'd only had it a few hours. But help is at hand.

Pop open door, look out and see exactly what's going on! Genius!

Fantastic write up of a car I am also fond of. Albeit in any other colour than flat red.

That's good to hear as I was worried that that the gullwing doors would mean it was only suitable as a Sunday car.

The colour is stunning; Alubeam Silver which unfortunately is an £8.5K option yikes. It has the forged AMG wheel option and the interior is a designo option, classic red.

I'm very, very tempted.

Nice to read an honest review that sounded like someone driving it as a real ownership proposition. So boring to read endless is it faster on x track tests and about how high the apex speed is. Yawn. Top marks!

Go for it, you certainly won't regret it. It's a very special car.

That colour scheme looks amazing too, if I were lucky enough to buy one I'd be torn twixt the blue/tan I posted, and silver/grey with red. The alubeam is incredible too.

Let us know if you get it!

Had a great day out on Wednesday with the Top Gear crew, I took the SLS down as they needed a car for photography purposes. The drive was mainly motorways however I managed a detour across the A43 and then along some B roads nearer to Dunsfold.

The SLS was a truly epic companion. I spent 90% of the time accelerating and then lifting off just to hear the explosions on the overrun. The best way of describing the car is a true "comedy" car - I had fits of giggles from the minute I set off until I returned nearly 500 miles later.

If you follow the link below their are a few pictures from the day. We took our Panamera Turbo along too which was somewhat overshadowed by the Aston Rapide! Their was a stunning Noble and the green LP570 was truly magnificent.

Unfortunately I was only able to have a quick run up the track when we left, I think I left a lasting impression to the press that watched my departure!

Obviously I would recommend a club membership for those thinking about buying an SLS but I could also honestly recommend the SLS as a day to day car. Personally I rather like the colour of ours as I find the Silver does not emphasise the drama of the car, Imola Grey does look stunning as does the Daytona Pearl Blue. We went for a Black interior as it will withstand use better however the Tan Red is really eye catching.

The link to my Top Gear Gallery is http://gallery.me.com/paulbrown#100042&bgcolor... .After you have had a look, if you click on the Gallery tab top left their are some other galleries from our recent Nurburgring Road Rally, the SLS launch party, a few shots of our 458 and SLS out and about in Wakefield and I will add a few new ones over the coming weeks.

Great review Tim and as always it is great to have London CLub members coming up to use our collection.

I certainly did, if only the volume of traffic in the south was the same as up here it would have been even more fun!

Thanks for writing this, the SLS is easily my new favourite car, knocking the original 300SL down a notch.

Only seen one in the wild, on the M40 the other day - and even in metallic goatst brown it still looked amazing.
