Sorry but I don't like it. Fundamentally its too heavy and not that good looking.
Too heavy?

They weigh just over 900kgs.

Heavier than the tin-top, but that's still seriously light.

I remember poking round a few of these when I was a lad, the Clipper seemed a tad cheaper to insure at the time - was that the 1.6 on Carbs? I was quite tempted with a Red one, but those clipper graphics would have been straight in the bin!

As the article says - the only real alternative was the XR3i at the time, I remember being very impressed with the 'Tennis'(1990 G-reg IIRC) version... and the electric hood! wooooo the ladies likes that! However it seemed the XR's were owned by the biggest tools in town!

...as for the 205 Cti... rattled and flexed like the last biscuit in the tin.

Hang on what about these though? Let us not forget the roofless Vaxbox offerings:

^^^^ That plate must add a pound or two to the value!

Oh yeah - totally forgot about the Cavalier. That wasn't a factory job though, was it? As for the Nova - I have mercifully never seen one of those before...

The Nova was terrible - but I had to complete the 80's set.

Yes I think the Cavalier was standard production - but used the Opel name Calibra, I'm sure I heard it was a bit of a failure, although to me (looking at it in context) I can't see why it wasnt more popular.

I am amazed at the wealth of negativity on this SOTW ... Only in the UK and especially on PH...... the hot bed of alien product r-slickers.

Purely in the interests of balance... Have some of this :~

Funny you should post one of those John, I heard a rumor BL/Rover Group/ Special Projects were also developing a convertible version too, in keeping with this weeks offering...

...Sadly it never made it into production because people kept filling it up with rubbish - they thought it was a skip!

Nice SOTW. My wife and I hooned around Europe in one when we lived in Holland a few years ago. Mine was LHD so it was easier just to sell it to a local dealer than keep it when we moved back to the UK. Something I regret as it was a really nice example.

Seem to remember reading somewhere that the boot lock was offset to allow a (German) crate of beer to fit in the boot - a level of attention to detail not seen again until the curry hook!

sorry i did not know you could get a fridge in red? oh wait sorry its a car... and call me anything you like but the MK1 golf was years ahead of its time and set the trend for every other FWD hatch after it. And the GTI was the BEST hatch ever, not the fastest but the BEST.. period! smash

You like a girl that takes her top off freely and parades around showing off in the public?

Am I just cynical or does the statement:

"bought for the wife but she has gone so this must go too ! well looked after!"

seem like a reason traders use for pretending to be private sellers, who are trying to sell a car not registered in their name? Similar to "selling on behalf of friend who cant use the internet" and "bought it but cant afford to insure, so it must go".

Still, a good car for the money.
