Would I drive one, absolutely. Would I want to own one with the maintenance bill each month, hell no.
Might one suggest that Sir stays away from the Citroen SM? wink

I much prefer the hatch, but always liked the concept of French cars.

I had a Xantia disel. I knew what every single light on the dash meant as they had all come on at one point or other. The AA man gave me a simple rule "Dont buy French cars".

That said, I did enjoy it, and if you pushed a foot on the break and raised the suspension you could get it to jump! (maybe thats why I had so many problems?)

Not a controversial shed at all, then... eek

FWIW, I see the points of (most) of the haters, but I have to say I'm firmly in the 'love' camp. I appreciate that this could be a massive money pit, but if you buy into what big Citroens are about you can't help but love it.

I normally try to stay (relatively) impartial with SOTW, but not this time smile

My dad had one of these back in the late 70s, (good Catholic - non French variety smile), and I loved it! He traded it in for the CX Safari which was also brilliant then went onto a Series III XJ6 4.2 which was total class :-). The reg of the 1st CX was YNJ 654 T, never forget it. Along with mum's Austin Allegro Estate, AWV 875 T.

That would make a fantastic 'boys on european tour' bus. You'd need most of the space in the back for carrying spares though I fear...

I love it. When I was at school lots of kids dads had big estates, Granadas had the cool 'Sweeney' factor, Volvos and Mercs were okay (especially with the seats in the boot), Peugeots had the third row of seats so were also okay, but one kids dad had a CX, which was by far my favourite, the way it went up and down and the magic carpet ride, fantastic.

The right CX is a fantastic car, but you have to get the ethos of big, lazy, super comfy French cars. If you are saying the 5 series or E class are better you have totally missed the point.

This particular car though looks like a money pit.

Never mind the rest of the car, how could anyone not like those door mirrors?

My Visa GTi had to have a manual switch fitted for the fan too.

I had a Xantia once, great car. Hugely comfortable, every toy and wafted me to work and every day for a year and over 15000 miles without requiring anything more than an ABS sensor and an exhaust clamp. Not bad considering it was already on 110,000 miles when I bought it.

Quality motor - as a kid my dad had a pug 504 estate that was far from cool, I always wanted to be transported in the back of a CX!

I love that. I mean really, properly, move house so I have somewhere to park love it. I couldn't own it though, I'd be terrified every time I heard a new groan or creak- and from childhood memories of a friend's Mum's one they do that a lot. To really enjoy it you'd have to be a cross between James Dyson and Fred Dibnah.

Top SOTW though Riggers!

Poor SOTW. Would have been great with the GTi hatch though.
