There is nothing that I can see about HID lights which is new, so any aftermarket kits which pass now should still pass.

What is new is that headlamp levelling (whether automatic or manual) and washers should work if fitted.. The changes probably mean far more to older cars where the electric height adjustment has gone a bit wonky (which is quite a few) than cars with aftermarket HID kits.

the thing about a mapped car is that it produces higher emissions than when built, which should put it in a different road tax band, so the goverment loose out on money.
You sure? I thought the main reason re-maps make a difference is because they narrow the tolerances manufacturers leave for poor quality fuels and other variables. Sounds like it would improve emissions to me. Indeed, most claim improved economy, which would go hand in hand with lower emissions.

Just to cheer everyone up. Here in Washington State, USA, vehicle emission tests ($15 a test) will be stopped in 2020.
Not all counties had them anyway, so registering a "modified" car in a non-emission test county was done and everything over 25 years old is exempt.
Due to the lack of money, it will be stopped. No more vehicle inspections.
Some other states don't have testing at all.

Indeed, and there is nothing in there about aftermarket HID kits. As long as they pass the beam pattern test then they will pass. The only cars I can see it affecting are ones where people have fitted HID kits to old refector/lense type lamps where the light gets scattered everywhere but those should fail at the moment.

I thought there would have been more outrage on here if these proposals went through, but I can't remember them ever being "scrapped". Thanks all, sounds like there won't be too much change then.
