Do cars need front number plates?

IMO it's ridiculous that cars need front plates (and that the display laws are so strict) & bikes don't need them at all - really pisses me off when heading towards a Truvelo at the speed limit & you see a biker gunning towards it knowing he can't get caught by the camera.

Also there was a guy in southampton who got identified through cameras by his bike and model they narrowed down to six different individuals, then got him by his leathers (Quite literally!!), he was doing 90+ in a 50 around southampton if I remember.

You must have a front plate as stated
however if your car is imported from a contry that does not have front plates then you may fit a smaller plate, however the lettering must be the same size/distance as that of a bike's rear plate. This guidence is on the DVLA's website. I used to run a small plate on my Supra as the front bumper would not fit a normal UK plate, the amount of times I had to show the reg's to the police was quite amusing.
