RE: New Porsche Cayman R Revealed
Discussion
£40K will buy you a very nice GT3 MK1 Clubsport --- 1 of 28 and with real investment potential. Ten years old and a genuine 185 mph motor that doesn't understeer and can retain this performance with both aircon and a radio --- for those Radio 4 moments.
IMO this is very disappointingly --- timid, tedious, tame. Not worth missing my T 4.

I think that I'd sooner have a Boxster Spyder, but this is all based on conjecture as I haven't driven either and I could be talking bks.
In my experience a Cayman S is (subjectively) about 25% better than a Boxster S.Most journos have said that the Boxster Spyder is 25% better than the S, so... er... where was i going with this?
The Cayman R is going to be precisely 27.832% betterer than a Cayman S, 78.234% betterer than a Boxster 2.7, and it could beat your dad up in a fight.
Must stop drinking bourbon before 8pm...

I was with you until the dad bit, my dad's well 'ard you'd need a GT2RS to beat him.

This is all true (GT3 mk1 and 997 Turbo etc), but we're comparing new with secondhand here, which whilst relevant for each of our buying decisions, isn't really relevant for discussing the new price of a car! Both those 911s are getting on for £100k new in today's money.
Fair point, just dusting the standard Covette argument which appears on every sports car clip on youtube but I don't have the time to reply to them all!Niffty951 said:

Nail on the head. My brother has a Spyder and it really is a very special thing. I don't know why as there's not that much difference to an S, but it really is. It's a stonking piece of kit and it set the bar high. If the Spyder didn't exist there wouldn't be any of this discussion about the R, it would just be another model. I personally was hoping they were going to do a Spyder'd Cayman. I'd really have been interested in that. Again, there's little difference and it really is the small details that have gone against this car. But it's all the small things together that make the Spyder great.

OK, who has driven a Cayman and a 911 back-to-back? Who went on to buy the 911? And who the Cayman?!?

was convinced I wanted a rear wheel drive 911 and went to buy a C2S, credit to the salesman he had me drive the whole range and I decided on a Cayman S Sport absolutely no regrets just a desire for a 997 GT3 next!
Do you get the feeling this car is satisfying nobody?
We have people on this thread wetting their pants because it has the air con removed
We have people on this thread wetting their pants because it hasn't lost 200kg.
For both sets of people this car does not hit the right buttons.
Move on, nothing to comment on.
It will make Porsche money though. Lets face it, Audi can make money by dropping a new niche number in. They had A2, A3, A4, A6, A8. Now A1, and A5 and A7Q5 as well ... damn that is cunning.
Porche haven't got that niche type stream of money for new models, so they make niche streams out of existing ones.
It' the new world order I am afraid.

odd thing to post for someone who now lives in civility
Instead I spend all day in Canary Wharf and Dobbin just eats grass in a field adjacent to the A21 near the speed camera before the Tonbridge turnoff
I think I'll change my name to Quentin

Are you sure that it is sensible to be driving so hard on public roads that a delay of fractions of a second can cause the car to slide?
