This is one of the greatest cars ever made. It featured, starred, nay veritably seared its raison d'etre into some of the greatest racing ever seen. It begat legends of motoring, enticed established F1 heros into sharing cockpits with relative unknowns. It entered 3 initials into folklore that stood comparison with Modena's best.

Supermini hot hatches are just road cars for yummy mummies. A CSL existed on the road only because it had to, it was born, bred and fed a diet of Capris on the tracks of Europe. It was and remains the greatest touring car ever made, the greatest BMW ever made. Its Goddam Perfection.

If I really have to on pain of death of my wife name my ieda of the best, 3 cars remain my Holy Trinity: XKSS, F40 and a CSL Batmobile.

The Batmobile will be way better to drive than any supermini.
It's an odd statement, isn't it? Comparing a 1970's Group 4/5 racer to a modern hatchback is a bit convoluted.
Plus I don't see many modern hatchbacks making 450bhp in race trim, or howling around the Nurburging with anything close to the speed of the CSL.

But that was 1972, so do agree with you.;)

I'm sure it was quick for its time. But isn't it dangerous driving with a paper bag on your head? It's certainly the only way you'd find me doing it.

But doesn't it have semi-trailing arm rear suspension? EVERYONE knows that's just rubbish!

Shouldn't be on that car nor the metal rear bumper set, hope I dont do the man an unfair comment but is the a kitted up standard CS or CS1 version.
Dont wish to offend CSL purists but did seem a little strange, Halfords arent that good as tuners are they????

An easy way to create wider wheel arches I suppose, and lightweight too. And looked good in that period car.

The black bumper in the main pic is a light plastic.

Standard Batmobile CSL.

Standard Batmobile CSL.
The arches (stainless) were std on the CSL and the Batmobile.
The rear bumper on the Batmobile pictured was std on all CSLs except the UK market, which had the chrome ones.

Did the BMW CSL create the fashion for chrome arches then?

I just cant wait to drive this Polaris CSL......

Sold New by Pennine Motors , of Dewsbury Rd , Leeds, ( long sice closed ) in July 1973 , any one remember them ?

They registered it in March 73, so i am guessing it was their Demonstrator.
