And just think, if you alter the ratio's between the pullies then you could have an instant "quick steering rack"

Seen a few like that. They seem to usually be USPS low cost mods on low volume (in comparison to the rest of their fleet) vehicles; e.g. converting 4WD vehicles that are only available in LHD to RHD to make it easier and safer for the postal workers to bung stuff into mailboxes.

USPS usually has dinky little delivery vehicles that are unusable in the snow, so tend to buy cheap US made 4WD vehicles for use in winter conditions. They don't tend to be sold outside the US, so are LHD only, and it isn't worth doing a proper upgrade as they only get used a few times a year.

Especially as most people doing conversions are for markets outside the US for liability reasons.

Or so I'm told.

Theres seems to be some sort of lever/bar mechanism running L/R - looks like the converter wanted to make it a bit more than a joke !

Perhaps the omnipresent jamesson can point us to a website revealing more details ... ?

Well, I'm hardly omnipresent on here, but here is the link to the original thread.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=23&...

I'm obviously getting senile in my old age because I remember that being much more recent than February 2006. Carparticus, you have my apologies. smile

I knew it had been posted several times though, as the above thread hints at.

I'll see if I can find the others in case there are more pictures.

Edit - can't find the other threads. Sorry!
