Yeah, i look at it- and see a hairdresser's (male or female) motor.
At least a bloke driving a Puma (in a right colour) or MX-5 can get away with it.

This one? Not so sure...
Oh FFS who cares about gender stereotyping of cars. Sad that people are so concerned about what some shti-for-brains van driver might think of them. Be a big boy, buy what you want to buy.

Given a choice of edging past a bloke driving a pink Micra CC and a bloke with a Hummer. It's the guy with the Hummer I'd give a wide berth.
Yeah, well...what if I don't want to buy this particular car? Perhaps it doesn't appeal to me...or excite me enough.
I'm sure, it's an okay drive- maybe even less boring than something heavy with 4 doors and little power.

And I'm not arguing or nothing...

Had one of these BRAND SPANKING new was only 1.8 not vvc, but 1 and a half years later 2 head gasket replacements and a new rear screen possibly the worst car I've ever owned was lucky to shift it. No wonder they went bust load of carp!
Mine was a year old and the biggest piece of crap I ever managed to get shot of.

Have to agree that i cant take them seriously and an MR2 is a safer bet.
Prefer classic roadsters myself, then buy a welder

What on earth has gender got to do with it? I've never understood the idea of a "man's car" or a "woman's car".
Do you own bright pink Nissan Micra by any chance? laugh
well i think i can explain... there is no such thing as mans car or womans car.. there are just normal hum drum cars, muscle cars, sports cars, family cars etc etc, any of which can be driven by a man or a woman..

BUT! there are also girlie cars.. driven by silly giggly girls (or very feminine males) who spend too much time looking in the mirror and too little time looking where they are going..
the following is a list of such cars...

MGF
vauxhall tigra
Ford Ka
Ford SteetKa
Micra CC
206 CC
Dihatsu Copen
BMW 1 series cabrio
Toyota Aygo
Mini cooper (not cooper s)
Mini Cabrio
Fiat 500 (not abarth one)
and loads of other cutesy little cars that i would never want to drive or own.. how many of the above do you see driven by men?? And on the flipside i know a girl who has twin turbo supra! and one who owns a sierra 3 dr cosworth... and they hate girlie cars like i do! smile

I think its personal preference. I had an E36 M3 Convertible in purple, absolutely loved the thing, but I always felt self conscious the few times i drove it with the roof down. Unfortuntely I'm one of those folks that does care what other people think, wish i wasn't, but thats me.

Can't explain how i currently manage to drive around in a car with gold wheels & a giant spoiler, but there you go....

Back to the original subject, personally, I'd go for an MX5 over the MG, purely because everything I've read past & present, points to the MX5 to be the one to have.

My daughter had one a W reg Special Edition with wider wheels and leather seats. Superb ride and comfortable and she loved it even though it kept costing for things that shouldn't have worn out. Head gasket was last straw.
Now she loves an MR2 Turbo which has cost nothing except some brakes and tyres which are things that you expect to wear out.

She'd have another MGF though if Toyota ever start making them

A convertible is about how it makes you feel, not how you look sat in it.

I'll take mine out in the countryside and then put the roof up for driving around town.

I think most soft top cars made these days tend to fit into the 'hairdresser' category, some not deserved. Like boxsters are a classic case of this, cracking car, yet tends to inherit that stigma.
Classic cars like MG's, TR6's tend to escape this as the drivers smelt of castrol and slept in their garage next to their snap-on toolbox - i.e not that feminine

The terrible K-series engines are also used in the "wonderful" Lotus cars, remember that!
And, of course, FIRST used mid-engined in a GTM!

Yes the usual macho bks when talking about the mid engined MG's.

Mid engined British car, fun to drive and in my experience totally reliable. Yet brings out so much hate.

Funny how the K series engine is crap in the MG but great in the lotus. Perhaps it is the technical expertise of the lotus owners versus the image based owners of MG's who didn't bother to maintain the engine properly. Regular servicing meant I had no trouble.

I had the MGF which is more comfortable than the TF,at least for me at 6'2" and 15 stone.

Yes I would love a TVR, and I also like the boxster but I enjoyed the MG too. I have no doubt I would love the MX5, but have only been a passenger so have yet to test the hype.

MGF is a wonderful little sportscar, I have owned a couple, no problems whatsoever apart from a few little trim fit niggles. I think they knock the spots off an MX5. MR2 tin tops are not really comparable, are they?

Could be up for a tenner and I still wouldn`t touch it, nice looking little car but it`s that poxy crap `k` series. Had the unfortunate experience of a `k` series in a Rover 416, 2 head gaskets in 13000 miles meant it went on e-bay for £300.

IT'S ROVER stE, they went bust for a reason .....their cars were pathetic.

That K series .... well, enough said !

I wouldn't piss on it if it was on fire.

Get a cheap Z3, enjoy some proper build quality and engineering

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't BMW own Rover for a lengthy period while the k engine was in production? Z3 leave it out, as vile a handling car as I have ever driven.

They owned Rover for a short period of time, learn't how crap the cars/workers/quality was ... and dropped it.

I'd have a beemer over a Rover anyday.

I've owned one K series engined Rover ..... never ever ever again, I've had four beemers, and will have another ..... there must be a reason for that !

Think I'd likely take the MGF at this price over a poverty spec Z3 at 4 times the price. The only decent Z-car is the M.

My nephew has had a couple. And although they dont really 'float my boat' (thought it was gutless TBH) and did not spark my soul...

But £1000 for a summer run around? Yeah, why not!
