Okay I know it's my own stupid fault but this thread makes me cos my lil open top bit of fun is still in hospital after this
The heater is brilliant so I can't see how cold is an excuse not to drive without a roof! Driven her in the pouring rain at night with the top off and we couldn't stop laughing
Crikey, a barn-find MX5. Must be worth quite a bit! The heater is brilliant so I can't see how cold is an excuse not to drive without a roof! Driven her in the pouring rain at night with the top off and we couldn't stop laughing
No pics sadly as it was before the official PH topless assault on Winter.
Two Sundays ago the bad weather had hit but the morning was sunny and clear and absolutely stunning, made perfect sense to get out and about with the roof off.
There was thick frost on both bonnet and boot lid and a somewhat chilly -1 showing on the dashboard display, however, with the heater on full and the side windows up I was perfectly warm and comfortable in the car.
Got quite a few good responses, one from a family out for a walk who said I was mad, until I pointed out they were out and about in the same weather but without the benefit of my heater, but the one that baffled me was the reaction of some automaton I encountered in traffic.
There was a small queue in both directions and I ended up along side a Peugeot 206 queueing in the opposite direction, the turd driving the car began to shake his head at me in a hugely exaggerated manner, I smiled at him and shrugged which sent him into meltdown. He was shouting and gesticulating at me so badly that he was misting his side window up with his breath and I could see globs of spit hitting the glass! I don't THINK I did anything to add to his anger once he started. When the traffic began to move again I gave him a cheery wave and continued on my way.
Absolute madness, if you are reading this you tiny minded mollusc , it's called living life, or even having fun perhaps. How small and empty does your life need to be for how I chose to live mine to matter so much to you? If you hate your daily humdrum toil, sitting in your faceless eurobox that your over bearing wife told you to buy because it was "sensible" take it out on her, not those of us lucky enough to have a bit of get up and go!!

After "popping out for some milk" last week. It has no heater, or roof, or doors.
It was very cold but bloody good fun, the grit lorry going the other way wasn't.
ps we have a '28 Tophat in the family,....
Should have taken a picture of my MX5 yesterday with the bonnet up and RAC van behind diagnosing the "steam billowing from the bonnet and loss of heater" issue.
The cold really is no excuse to not have the top down, the only issue is lowering the roof without the rear screen splitting...

anger from some others
I once had a moron passenger of a white van get very angry at me for no other reason than I was driving my roofless and doorless Westie on the motorway on a very cold November early morningWe were on our way to a breakfast meet at the start of a tour which allowed us at pionts to see the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run and the end in Brighton
We were in our flying jackets, hat, scarves and gloves so were comfortably warm except ours legs were cold as we were in ordinary trousers but as we were in a Westfield SEiGHT our legs got some heat from the heater but also a little from the engine, gearbox and exhaust
