RE: Driven: Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

i would have a speed yellow C2s 997 manual , narrow body with the 3.8 engine in a fab colour! actually i have got that car and love it ! would love sport chrono and PDK but cant afford it at the moment so i'll make do with a manual without sport chrono. Really like the gts, just about perfect all they need to do really is refuse to sell them in anything but speed yellow, guards red or white and it would be perfect !

Why does everyone prefer narrow bodied 911s, surely wider is better with sports cars? :/
Not everyone. I've always preferred the wider body of the 4S and turbo, but with the 'purity' of the 2S package. So to that end, the GTS is pretty much perfection in my book. You have to remember that by the time you tick a few essential boxes, you are still looking at an £80k car, tho. £80k buys you a lot of other options from the 'slightly used' list - a 997 Turbo for a start...

very nice jon! LOL
whilst the wide bodys are nice and have an appeal i like the narrow bodied cars , they just seem to look nicer to me ? cars are like women , we don't all like the same type ?
True story - although I've always said that the only thing I like with a fat arse, is a 911. whilst the wide bodys are nice and have an appeal i like the narrow bodied cars , they just seem to look nicer to me ? cars are like women , we don't all like the same type ?

has it actually been driven? looks like this is just an editorial re-hash of the spec sheet? no mention of how it drives..
"The gearshift remains one of the 911's biggest draws, but I reckon - this side of the GT3 RS - it's the finest-steering 911 in recent memory. The Alcantara rim is loaded with feel, the weighting near perfect and the precision on offer is excellent. There's no slack in the system, and the GTS's nose is extremely eager to turn in, its greater resistance to understeer making the GTS more neutral in even tighter bends.Suspension revisions make a difference here too. PASM is standard, the GTS managing that fine ride and control trick that Porsche demonstrated with the limited edition, mega money Sport Classic. There's a suppleness to the ride, yet it's taut and controlled even on poor road surfaces. It'll carry its speed down a road where a GT3 driver would be backing off, and retaining control where a standard Carrera S would be feeling a bit light."
I saw one in the OPC in Edinburgh a month or so back, stunning in red (probably the same car in this article I suspect). Having a red 911 just now, and a previous was also red might make me a bit biased, but I have to say the GTS with the trim spec that this one has it does look beautiful, I can't picture one in any other colour.

One of the great features of going to the 'ring, is to see Porsche's from all era's side by side. When you compare a 964RS against a 997 Turbo the size difference is immense. I think the attraction of the the narrow bodied cars is clear to see when you see them together. The proportions just seem better asthetically.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
