Is the 2.9 a better steer then? With media hype of "get the S", this throaty, highly strung gem is being missed due to badge kudos. A basic spec manual would be perfect.
I'm not sure the jurnos have said this. Indeed, a lot of the reviews when launched stated that the standard 2.7 (as it was then) on 17" wheels was the best steer.Edited by AV12 on Tuesday 7th December 09:32

Got my 987 3.2 S since 26 months, I've driven nearly 50.000 km in it... I like so much this car. I'm in that state of grace that I really don't desire any other car, be it more powerful or expensive: I love the looks, the dynamics, the daily usability. I'd like to keep it for a long, long time.

I had my roof down driving home in darkness for the winter freshness the other day - started snowing aswell which was really nice down the motorway, unfortunately i had to pull over 20miles later at the next services as my head was getting numb/brain freeze as i didnt bring a hat
ive not had my s2000 too long so take every oportunity to go roof down as the experience is just great, and especially fresh at the moment.
off topic slightly but I'd be interested to know how heavy rain also needs to be to get you wet, ive driven right through passing showers a good number of times (when on motorway) where my wipers are on yet have cruised along nice and dry, the rear wind deflector has received a splattering of rain but nothing much really.. the rain seems to come around and pass past the top and off behind you via the windows.. its quite interesting (thats at legal speeds aswell so you dont have to hit warp speed)
ive noticed alot of people aswell like to wash their screens when infront of me.. not sure why, just makes me go past whilst washing my screen aswell to prove a point that it doesnt actually get you wet..

i had a 911 carrera 4S a while ago, got it in mid nov and it was freezing, but i could not help myself, at night i would take it out (daytime it sat in the garage), hood down, heated seats on, windows up and 4WD powerslides round every roundabout i could find... great fun!!! having said that by the time the summer came around i didnt like taking the hood down as i thought it made me look like a poser!! i only bought the 911 as it was £5000 under market value...sold it on the following summer for tidy profit! having said that if you dont mind 2 seats you cant do much better than boxter, it has now evolved in to serious bit of kit!
Can't beat a Boxster for some great roof down fun. On my second one in 2 years and really can't think what I'd replace it with. Great performance, handling, noise (with the sports exhaust!), luxury and comfort if you want it, and personally I love the looks!
Always have the roof down - whether driving to Le Mans or Monte Carlo, or just blasting round the Cornish lanes!

Thanks for the article PH, at last a 2.9 turn's up on the front page!
This is a simple no strings Boxster..................with a £7k Paint-job :>
This car is almost certainly on winter rubber, my 2.9 is still beached on an inch of ice and it's not moving for a while!
Is the 2.9 a better car than the 3.4? I believe it is each to his own etc. I thought the 2.9 was better.
I believe it was Jason Plato who said he preferred the 2.9 Cayman over the 3.4.
My 2.9 4 month old is sat on the drive with 1" of sheet ice on the road in front of the house.
Its got normal tyres on.... No use in snow or ice what so ever
My previous car was a MINI cooper S, fantastic car in the snow and ice.
Even my TVR cerbera was better in the snow
Having said that it's a very nice car. I went for PDK and Sports suspension in black. Lots of fun.
I didn't bother with any of the colour combinations, all too expensive and pointless.

I did the Kent PH run a couple of months ago in my wife's Boxster S. Wet, greasy leafy roads, fkING LETHAL!!! Following a mates standard MX5 around a slowish 90 left, the MX cruised round normally, I was almost on the lockstops momentarily saving it from going into a field. Would not eve attempt to take it out in the snow and ice, it has sat there for 2 weeks and will sit there until the sun comes back. I think it is safe to say this Boxster has winter rubber!

See the top photo in the article? I slithered down that road for another 500 yards until getting stuck. My mrs slipped on her front twice trying to push us out (and got soaked in the process) before we used some old carpet we found in a ditch to aid traction.I don't think it is on winter rubber, might be wrong of course, but it was more sideways (not in a good way at times) than straight ahead.
Great car though, I'm a big Cayman 'base' fan too. Odd coming from a previous Boxster S owner....
