Is that a true Targa though, or a car that's had a set-to with an angle grinder?I am tempted by another MR2, this time a Mk2 that won't rust as much as my old one (if at all), but I'm in two minds about the targa-top. I've owned a couple of targa-roof cars now and the faff of having to pull to the side of the road, get out, open the boot and refit the roof panel (which can be a job for two people) is a right pain in the arse if it starts to rain compared with just reaching back and pulling a hood up. I'd buy one, but I think 99% of the time the panels would stay on.
I imported a LHD 911 Targa. Once I figured out the targa panel colapses and fitted in the boot it was a really practical open sports car. Around Munich the police had a few white ones with orange helmeted autobahn police using flourecent sticks clearing the outside lane, what a brilliant job and what a great idea for the UK! I am so sick of "speed monitors" in the outside lane at 55 to 60...
I bought what looked like a lovely 1972 911T Targa back in 2003. It had been through a complete restoration, and came with all the pictures. Standard apart from some bigger carbs and a new airbox. I naively used it as my every day driver for about 18 months and it was great apart from one instance of complete meltdown outside Labour HQ on Milbank on the day of state opening of Parliament, stuck in the piddling rain with lights, heater, wipers all merrily draining the battery...
The shocker came when I took it for an MOT and was shown a hole in the floor about the diameter of a football.
These early 911s are wonderful. Light, revvy, and not as nasty on the limit as everyone claims, although they do put smoothness of input at a premium. Just don't drive it through a horrid winter or get one of the slightly later galvanised one.
I have from time to time thought about one of those Paul Stephenson cars that are modern made to look old - but somehow it seems to be cheating.

993 Targas are simply fabulous imo, I will own one some day.
Totally Agree.Probably the best looking 993 of all.
Motoring sculpture a real design Classic.
Anyone know if the 993 Porsche was the first ever glass top sliding targa?
