"340hp straight six with twin turbochargers that gives the 1M a power-to-weight ratio of 227hp/tonne."

So BMW have been eating all the pies. rolleyes

On the plus side I'd expect it to be far less of a risk a few years down the line than I see the M3 or M5's to be. Those bespoke engines can be expensive if they go wrong. Not saying this won't be but hopefully a little less stressed than the high output NA stuff.

But surely no one in their right mind would run one of these without a warranty?

Tidy- nice interior. Out of my reach price-wise.

Generally like but the details are cheap. Those faux vents and gashes look straight out of a cheap tuners catalog, not BMW M butch of old (think E46 CSL)

Everyone really is going bling. What happened to understated looks? Thinking Biturbo RS4. Stealth but had something about it that made you just look a second time... much better imo than cheap vents and stuff. 135Ci looks tons better, and comes in better colours biggrin

Good luck. You'll (most probably) need it.

I'm sure it'll be a hoot to drive, but was really hoping for more like 370bhp+ and a 100kg weight saving...

Then it'd be a flyer.

My guess is that they are holding back. Now that the body shape is in series production they will, near the end of the current 1ers life, bring out a CSL version, with the above improvements...
I suspect you may be right. There are certainly rumours flying around that a CSL version of the 1'er might be on the cards. I agree that they haven't taken this nearly as far as they could.
Agreed, but if they did then it would be as good as an M3 for a lot less money. Can't see BMW wanting to do anything that would dilute the profile of one of their halo cars, much in the same way that the Caymen could have been taken a lot further (but wasn't because of impact this could have had on the lesser 911's.

340bhp resulting in 227 bhp/ton = only one conclusion.

Way too heavy, as usual !!!
Not really though, is it? It's pretty similar power-to-weight as an E36 or E46 M3.

I'd imagine it's more 'normal' mechanicals than say an E46 M3, and they seem to sell quite well second hand now - I couldn't afford to take the risk on one, but plenty do.

There's something in the last M5 and current M3 that makes me want to spaff. Above all else, it's probably the engine, as with the other M models before them.

This new M is probably very capable, but it just doesn't seem to excite me as a concept in the same way.

Thank you EU emmission regs, for ruining whatever character engines had left.

Exactly. The 1M is supposed to be smaller than the old 3 Series isn't it?

Looking forward to this. I have around 360bhp running through my 135i and it is a monster, but when I took it on the track earlier in the year the handling and lard was by far and away its weakest point. Apparently the 1M is 35kg lighter so not much in it pie wise, but it is the LSD and other M dynamics that should really improve this car over the standard 135i. I think this is just about the only car I will be happy to swap my 135 with. Lets hope it gets down to £25k second hand in a few years and the engine tuners release a similar amount of extra power from the wee beasty.

It's just a shame they didn't make it in the non-coupe car, as the coupe looks horrific imbred child of the 3 and 1 series imo.

You mean apart from being direct injection (HPFP, coil packs, injectors etc) and turbocharged?

Not really progress then given that those models are 10/15 years old; the Z4M had a power to weight of 231 Bhp/tonne so a step backwards as far as power to weight is concerned; I guess I was just hoping for more really.....

I'm guessing the stitching matches the external colour? Shirley Orange isn't standard...
