Before lumbering the outhouse with a 200 horse pilchard tin, I drove the then new Toyota engined 111R and Exige version.

I'm quite sure the hard top kills on track but on a B road, the al fresco minor krieg, as lobe profiles changed, circa 4000 rpm (iirc) was redolent of a mini F355 and where whippet roamed free, I preferred the Elise. However, basically, they were simply more propulsively convincing extrapolations of ye olde S1.

Driving back from what was then Ribble Valley Lotus, I recall strafing the Beetlespürter back yem, o'er over the same terrain and whatever mode of set/state of tune it was in at the time, blew both Hethelites away for sheer hooliganism.

Knowing the way you drive and what, if you'll forgive me for presuming, is yon acoustic palate, Banff, you would bore of the robotic drone from the mid engined flyweight in no time and bemoan the dearth of wanton oversteer, in about a month.

We both know the only way from a CSL and it is a human number; it's number is 997...GT3. wink

I fear Der might be right. I'm not entirely convinced the revvy, flyweight and delicate Exige is necessarily you GP.

I know you pedalled one avec my chum Graham up in Scotlandshire but were there any negatives from that drive that you can remember?

The only negative was the humble engine origin and the potential for build quality induced leprosy.

I loved everything else about it. Albeit I could do with a 260bhp variant.

yes
I considered the 6GT3 & even the 6GTRS. But concluded that IF I part with my CSL, it will be a 7GT3, preferably a Gen 2.

To clarify, are we talking of replacing the CSL with a standard Exige S or the 240 Performance Pack?

Build quality is not really an issue. I have a 111R here that has done 55k miles and is as tight as a drum with no creaky trim etc.

Edited for carp speeeling.

CSL over S2 Exige.
S1 Exige over CSL.
Pour quois?
Pretty obvious really. The S1 Exige would be more of an event than even a CSL. The noise they make is great too, ok, not quite CSL mental, but very good. And for the money of a CSL, you could get a Honda'd/charged S1 Exige which would be quite a bit faster.
Hmmm, not many S1s about though and from what I understand, time tends not to be very kind to them.

Add a superchrger and you could be looking at 300bhp+ easy

I would have the CSL, however I voted for the Exige because I'm thinking it's an itch that you wantneed to scratch even if it's not long term.

I concurr.

I know this won't really help GP's case but it is a really tough call between the two, even for me in my position wink

Well said, Loon; I'm a massive Hethelist but am trying to save young Caled - and his sporran - from himself.

The M3 on the basis I'm a bit old for track cars and on the basis of having a car that didn't fall apart in your hands. wink
I suspect I might like the Exige more though....even though I didn't like an Elise 111R at all.
Try one smile It's far from being a track car. Elises and Exiges ride better than most Porsches down a B road. Plenty of owners use them everyday. It was only really the noise on motorways that used to wind me up.
As noted, I didn't like the 111R and thought it crashed into potholes. I did like a mate's VX220 Turbo though.

To sum up then....

An Exige is more me and a CSL is more him.

hehe
