Of the 18 cars I've owned I've only ever lost money on one, which was a Renault 19 16v. It was overpriced to start with but the dealer wouldn't budge from £1,550. Then over £1k (3 gearboxes, 2 radiators, 2 clutch pedals and a speedo cable) and 12 months later i sold it for £1,300. I was just glad to see it go. Anywhere.

Funny thing is, the dealer had it up for £1,995 with 12 months warranty. However, I was young, foolish and thought this would be the best car I ever owned. It turned out to be the worst it was a dog and the understeering in the wet was borderline dangerous. Maybe how you don't see many on the road anymore.

Most Renaults from that period and before seem to have disappeared off the road. I remember my Dad had 12s, 14s, a 15 and several 18s from the 70s and early 80s, then a 19, early Meganes and Lagunas. All long since rusted away I suspect.

I suddenly feel quite good about;
Scrapping a 306 i paid £1800 for, getting £250 back.
Scrapping a Astra i paid £300 for, getting nothing back.
Spares/repairing a mondeo i paid £2500 for, getting £500 back.
Scrapping a bmw 525 i paid 600 for returning me £300.

Yet to profit on a car though.
