If I could get any of my topless numbers out of the garage I'd be out there right now (ok, maybe not right now, I've had a few sherberts!)...damn snow has put my boxing day drive on hold (unless I take the Defender!)

As for Morgans? Love 'em and will have a +8 at some stage! smile

A few years back I took the piss out of my Dad because he'd put himself on the waiting list for a Mog.

Soon, I may have to admit to him that I sort of kind of want one...
Given that it's Christmas, this might be a good time to remember the old saying " Do not take the p*ss out of thy father or his Morgan"!

By the way, unless it's raining, I don't put the hood up on mine eitherdriving

In 1962 I drove my new, just off the ship, Morgan +4 to Bathurst, topless of course, for the 500, [miles back then], just to spectate.

Middle of winter, about 6 below freezing over the mountains in the early morning. I had to stop & buy a news paper, which I put under my jumper, & down into my belt, to stop the wind from the low cut door from destroying my kidneys. We could still cruise our country roads legally, at 100 MPH back then. The icy blast above that door was too much. The paper works well.

Later I reached into my pocket, & pulled out my cigarette lighter. It would not work. the thing fitted into my hand perfectly, but my hand was frozen into the shape to hold the steering wheel, & the thumb would not work the thing.

The next year that Mog was timed at 124.6MPH down Conrod straight, on its way to winning the 1501cc to 2000cc class of the improved production sports car race, but I towed it up there behind a sedan.

Hope this isn't being intrusive, but are you Phil West as in Holden Monaro?

Yup, as shown by a previous post where he refers to driving a Brabham and winning at Bathurst biggrin

Sorry Phil, not stalking you, just curious and rememebered another previous post where you mentioned racing the Morgan at Bathurst smile

Edited to remove link I pointed to originally as the thread degenerated unpleasantly and unnessarily as I read further down it!!

Yes, that's me, & buying that magnificant Morgan changed my life completely.

I'd recomend one to anyone with a heart, if they can afford it.

Like many other things back then, a Morgan was much cheeper in relation to other cars, as was motor racing to other activities.

Thanks Phil, I spent a couple of years in Oz as a postgraduate student, so the Ford/GM rivalry is something I remember very well. Bathurst was a regular pilgrimage for a couple of years- great memories.
Best wishes
