Anyone else remember the Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione ?

It was the halfway house between the GTO and the F40.

I won't post a picture of the front. It's a bit of a minger.

I love the way these are an organised bodge up. Look at the exhaust above, you can just see them cobbling it together on a friday night.
I actually think the front of that looks better than the F40. boxedin

This sold off by Ferrari in their Sotheby's auction a few years back, with the estimates from $150,000-$190,000. It sold for €195,500 ($236,300). The auction was before the recession had started, so if the POA is more than the original auction price the they're doing well. Then again, there appears to be much more press coverage of this compared to the original auction...

It looks like what it is - a £30k car which has been hacked about to fit a test engine.

Yep it's a total mess but some one'll 'ave paid a fortune for it just because it's a "Ferrari." Mad men the lot of them.

Better looking than the 348 and the Enzo, funnily enough.

Asking price for this unique collector's car is €750,000, which is €90,000 more than the list price for the limited production Enzo.
In that case, mine will be up for sale in the PH classifieds for £150,000 later this year. Only two in the world. Bargain!!!

cool
My car is is also the only real production car in the world,
only one ever made.
sadly the name is not Ferrari but a one off Hartge also owned by Herbert hartge...
stil a official car also by name/brand for grabs compared to the Ferrari biggrin only 50,000.-gbp

Saw this on fifth gear was auctioned about 2/3 years ago sure they said it fetched something like £160,000 so someone is making a tidy profit here.

An interesting oddity, but would anyone really take this over a real Enzo?
I would. I never understood the "clout" of the Enzo; looked terrible compared to the F40 (I won't mention the F50), and was still slower than the 15 years older McLaren F1!

This was auctioned off a few years ago for around GBP55k if I'm not mistaken. They then tried to flog it off about a year later for some ridiculous amounts. Looks like still on for sale :-)
Its quite a car but pig ugly to look at and If you see it in the flesh it is like a badly made kit car.
55k?

The engine is probably worth that alone.
Yes. With the then exchange rate the estimate was Eur80k on the auction brochure. Don't remember what it went for but I think the quote above for Eur180k (GBP120k at the time is right). The engine may be an enzo engine but it is the test mule engine so there are quite a few miles on it ... and we all know how ferraris depreciate with miles!!!

Was the ferrari that should not be named really that bad though? I've only seen one the one time (crawling through Kidsgrove years back), and that it looked .... quite good?

technically I think it was very good and great to drive but it is truly horrid to look at. Got up close to one in the south of France and it was just - nasty really. No real finesse on a car that should have had so much of it and a real let-down after the F40.

evo reckon it's just as fast round a track as the f1 and when new it cost less than half as much(and that's without taking inflation into account)

So they chose a 348 as a base to develop the enzo??

And who said that the 348 was a bad car?? :-)

I think all they're developing is the engine to be fair. That chassis is not an Enzo underneath

But a Mclaren oozes sophisticated class and ability and has racing pedigree whereas the Enzo is just a slab of horrible details. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I remember seeing one on display at the Autosport show and on saying to my mate how ugly it was I saw someone looking at me incredulously, then he looked back and it and it almost looked like it was dawning on him. It was a car that petrolheads were almost expected to love just for what it represents, so they somehow never thought about it objectively, but when you do, you think - actually, that isn't very nice at all!

This Enzo 'mule' is definately the real deal! If memory serves me correctly, Ferrari had a clear-out garage-sale about 2/3yrs ago where they auctioned off many rare and interesting cars and memorabilia. Amongst these were several racing cars and a development mule for the F40 based around the 365BB (or Boxer) it was called something like the Evoluzione. I don't think this 348/Enzo mule attracted that much interest, so it's obviously breaking cover now to bring in some bif profits. I'm sure if someone googles the Ferrari clearance sale, you will find more info. The lots included were incredible.

Zebedee, that's exactly the way I have always felt. From seeing the initial press release, to them trundling through our town.

No actually the F1 looks wrong and the front end is rubbish. The racing versions improved it slightly but they did nothing to change the funny location of the passenger/greenhouse in the middle. And its got the tail lights from a coach. But this like your comment is opinion and we'll never agree. What can be said though is that evo tested one on track with an F1 and for twice as much money new the f1 could only beat the enzo by 0.1 of a second(or a tenth of a percent per lap) despite having the same modern tyres and being dicked about with by one P Flemke.

I like the Enzo since I think it looks like an LMP1 car for the road.

Do you mean you expected to love it from seeing the press release but ended up not loving it, or your feelings from press release were preserved when you saw it in the flesh and you still love it for what it represents?
