Neither.

It's because the tool in the outside lane is blissfully unaware that there is anything behind him/her and therefore no amount of gentle creeping to their n/s mirror, or indicating or - God forbid - flashing, will move them. Either that or it's their own arrogance; that 70mph is the limit and woe-betide anyone who should wish to go faster, that's the problem.

I frequently undertake people because frankly, I'm not prepared to follow someone for miles and miles who is so unaware of their own surroundings.

OP, I was travelling up the M5 last night and got to a hill where it goes into 4 lanes. I was in lane 1 doing 85 and there was a Peugeot 206 in lane 3 doing around 70 I'd guess. I stayed in lane 1 and carried on. Why should I have to pull three lanes right to pass a car and then pull three left again just because they don't know how to driver properly?

Oh, and it's not undertaking, it's overtaking on the left. Undertakers deal with dead bodies.

So lane 3 will be going at about 50mph? That's the average speed a 911 is driven at.
