Hammer + phonecall + £80 = new screen fitted by your insurance company. Simple.
Simple yes. Not always the best solution.

£50ish if you intend to buy two wiper blades wink
Bugger. Yes, you're dead right.
Still, even at £50 I think it's worth it. smile
Cheap, shonky glass potentially fitted by a shonky fitter.

Selotape a stone to the windscreen then hit it with a hammer. £50 later you'll have a nice new windscreen.

Best check you've got screen cover on your insurance first.

Lol.... Hassle free & prob cheaper by the time youv spent so much on products, time & headache...
I'm amazed how many people who've bought into the way things have been streamlined by the insco+preferred supplier relationship. Accidentally damage your windscreen on purpose, then claim it on your insurance. Take windscreen cover away from motor insurance and let's see how some/most change in their approach.

Hahaha...just checking PH, while the kids watch Christmas tv!

We could not find anything to sort out Mrs. Ice's windscreen. So a new windscreen it was......she even has a new car now, just goes to show how old this thread is.

Having said the above, this is a great thread and most of the above advice is sound.

Good luck with getting that screen sorted.

Were we talking about this on email?

Being a professional driver, I have allways had the screen wash issue. After much trial and fail, the only conclusion is the the screen wash causes the smearing, start with washing up liquid and plain water screen does not smear, (too much foam) try any brand of screen wash .... smears appear empty the whole 5litre onto the screen it will only make it worse.
Is this a plot to get us to use more screen wash?
Finally Have found an old bottle of RAC screenwash works perfectly, can't get any more.
What to do now? This smearing issue is a serious hazzard when driving at night

Very small amount of Autosmart G101 in the washer bottle and then wipe the blades with neat G101... the crap that comes off the blades is unreal and the G101 in the washers seems to clear well but not smear.

I suffered for years with smeary hazy windscreens.

I used every glass cleaner under the sun from Windowlene to Auto Glym. I tried isopropyl alcohol, wire wool, even vinegar but nothing would stop the smear until....I decided that perhaps it wasn’t grease or wax but a build up of limescale. I live in a very hard-water area and limescale eventually leaves a trace on everything to do with water.

Even though I had tried vinegar previously, this time I soaked a towel in vinegar and left it on the windscreen for an hour or so. Then I gave the screen a vigorous rubbing and hey presto, I now have a crystal-clear windscreen and NO MORE smear.

Top tip, I will remember that one. You could use a special calcair remover, works in a minute or two.

Old thread but I've had these problems in a few cars so there's some handy advice here.

An early post suggests buying the most expensive Bosch wipers from Halfords - anyone reading that do yourself a favour and get them from EuroCarParts for about 25% of the price!

I just spray mine with mr muscle and let it soak for a while, then just whack the wipers on and were done. Also works for shifting the stubborn masses of dead flies off the screen in summer.
