Efficient - 635d can cover UK to South of France on tank and half without filling up
How do you go through a tank and a half of fuel without filling up?

I do quite like the M6 by the way.

I can't say I'm a fan of the 'afterbirth pink' leather interior...

Would that that were entirely true: Chris-R's Xmas hols started so early that he never realised the 5-er actually went back to BMW before Xmas too wink.

That left me with my rather more humble E36 328i Touring shed for the festive season. Nice, but not exactly a 535d...

I shall be keeping my e64 M6 for the forseeable future and nary a jot of worry about depreciation. Some people just dont get that a car is not an asset, whatever way you look at it it`s a cost. I drive it as much as possible so I get maximum enjoyment. 13,000 odd miles in 6 months. I`m not just a petrolhead but a petrol torso as well!

Well this throws a spanner in the works, there was me all set on a R230 SL600 or SL55 sometime this year and along comes this article. Never been in one (M6, have done a lower engined version) but the spec and what folk say it sounds as if these are brutally fast, and also capable of being a long distance cruiser, with the benefit of a proper boot and rear seats over the Mercedes. Are these renowned for having small fuel tanks or am I getting mixed up?

I think the coupe shape has mellowed over time and is more coherent than the convertible, reckon I could live with the boot, just a shame as that's what most people would see most of. Front end and interior look lovely, though not quite SL good looking imo. Incredible value now from £20k and Indy Red looks the best colour to me, really suits it.

If this was closer I'd be well tempted..

Great car bought one on Friday £22k 53k miles bargain of the century feels and looks like new at less than 1/4 of the price and as its a 55 plate cheap tax too...and the stereo is awesome

Can't see they can get much cheaper with that engine and the rarity now they are out of production

yes the fuel tank is stupidly small but other than that you can't fault it for a daily driver with rear seats for children that's also fast a fk for this sort of cash

Never a BMW fan at all but the 6 leaves me even more indifferent than the rest. Hideous looking thing.
Compared to a TR7? Please! Just shows we are all different. I love the M6, I also like the new 6.

Talking of depreciation....if any of you are interested, there is 2008 '08' M6 in indianapolis red, with 70,000 on the clock in the BMW Open Sale at British Car Auctions in Nottingham today (in fact its probably sold by now). Trade Value? £26k according to Glasses or £28,800 according to CAP.

I just bought a 57 plate convertable with 7.5K miles on clock for under 40% of original value!!!!!!

Love this car to bits, I can fit kids in the back, cruse around when I want or go mental went I want to. Mates 997 carrera didn't stand a chance in a side by side acceleration comparison from rolling 2nd gear 30 mph start. Yes the gearbox is unusual and general everyday driving can be a bit of a pain but its a smaller price to pay than the back breaking ride in my said mates porsche. Mine has just come out of the original warrenty but has BMW approved used car warrenty for first yr and further warrenty is available to buy (about £700/£800 a year) but i see that as simply one of the costs of owning a car like this. The mechanics have been shown to be as reliable as any and you have a wider dealer network and support than with most cars of this calibre.

As for the styling, well beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I see lots of people who dumped the best looking person they ever went out with for someone who was easier to live with (the ones who have hidden/inner beauty) just like the M6.

As for me I think she looks great and am just waiting for a hint of sun so I can enjoy the sound of the V10 with the roof down (no ipod, radio needed in this car).
