My brother had one of these whilst at Uni around 1999/2000, his was the later incarnation of 114Gsi 5 door..it felt very quick and was great fun, supremely chuckable and like a Mini you didnt need to drive very fast to have a lot of fun/smiles.

He got it off a friend of my Mums, and it had only done about 8000 miles when he got it at 4 years old (on P plate). She had owned it from new and only ever popped to the shops and back in it. It was in graphite grey and had 14 inch alloys and sport seats and spoiler, but then typical Rover addition of walnut trim on dash/door caps!!..a cracking car for a student..then some mug in a white van piled into the back of it whilst he was slowing to turn...suffice to see it didn't fare well!..

not much good on a motorway either and it was written off before it had the chance to prove unreliable but I will always remember it well

Essentially this car is good for one thing - that Eaton SC. Is that worth £700??
Someone is being a dreamer, delivery mileage M45's normally go for £200-£300 on eBay. They have become a bit rare recently, a lot of R53 MINI's need to replace them and the MX-5 guys are buying them too. They are a laughable £1200 new from a dealer, but next year MINI's exclusivity on them expires and Eaton can sell them direct smile

what a pile of cack!

it aint as light as you think, 100-120 bhp is not a WOW!

a golf MK1 does not weigh a hell of alot more and even a 1.6 has 115 bhp

waste of time....

the only one worth having is the original MG Metro Turbo, now that i like...

I very much doubt it, a standard MK2 Golf 1.6 was around 75BHP on a good day.

Mk1 1.6 GTi was 110 bhp, the 1.8 was torquier and 112 bhp.

I think PH is becoming inhabited with those with little imagination, that cannot possibly beleive that something so Infra Dig could provide any enjoyment, even if it could their ego's could not cope with being seen in something that may lead people to think they are poor, I think the idea is that it is a bit of random fun, a silly diversion for petrolheads not for those that think the ultimate object of petrolheadom is an Audi A5 2.0 Tdi (S-line).

Apologies, I wasn't thinking GTi stuff, more the standard issue stuff!

It's an ancient 1.0 engine, I don't think it's power output is too bad considering. All people seem to see is massive power, this isn't about that. It's about fun, being different and a bit of a laugh.

well duh, i was talking about a GTI and it was rated at 110 bhp but had nearer 115 bhp, the 1.8 was rated at 115 but a decent one had closer to 120 bhp... i had a Mk1 GTI which I modified massively, but when it was totaly standard it made 114 bhp on the rolling road and that was...WAIT FOR IT... a 1.6 GTI.. and i wouldnt piss on audi s line....

actually my dear chap (as this site is for enthusiasts no need for insults) my golf was a proper shed that i paid £250 for with no mot or tax, but it was solid and had a decent engine. I got it going on the road all working taxed and tested for £800!! However a year later i went mad, took it to bits and 2 years and £10,000 later it came back as mint restored car with a 200 bhp via a highly modified 2 litre engine. My point being this metro is total st which ever way you look it! how long before the charger melts the engine or pops a driveshaft??

I actually agree with you my dear chap, but your previous post with the "well duh" and "...WAIT FOR IT... a 1.6 GTI.. " was rather patronising to say the least, hence the retort.

I had an MG Metro Turbo, and it was not the best but I think the appeal to some people is the gruff "A" series note, gearbox whine and go kart handling. The gearbox was definitely the weak spot though.

Lastly I'm still seething from missing out on a 1983 Golf GTI Campaign Edition. Usual story, sat for a while because the old dear was past it, I then inquired and someone had bought it only a few days previously rage

Life goes on though biggrin

always liked the MG Turbo! sadly i sold my golf to a little chav who lost his d/license for drink driving, was too thick to the sell the actual car so sold it off in bits, i saw it in a driveway one day and knocked on the owners door, he had bought the shell with no engine and no trim for £600 ..GUTTED>>>
