100-120hp? i hope the gearbox is strong enough!!! with that setup i reckon it hoovering around 70-80hp. but those engines are sooo easy and cheap to tune.

I would love to see those generation metro fitted with vvc K series engine.
I think the box is the same as the MA unit Peugeot/Citroen use. A 106 GTI box should therefor fit and could handle the torque but the standard one should be borderline fine.
It dont use 'on the side gearbox' it had gearbox in the sump.

How anyone can say "I drive a Metro" and not want to die is beyond me. However I love the 6R4. So yes, I am confused.

[quote] Standard stuff (with front shocks!) just with all the fluid let out so its a simple pump up job to get it back to standard

My memories of Metro hydrolastic suspension are a bit vague but doesn't this mean he has been driving it just on the bump stops. Firm ride much!

Hydragas was only on the later ones ISTR?

Done pretty frequently I think.

A company called talon will build you a fast metro for not a lot of cash...

I like it.

I agree the rust would be a bit of a concern, but it has the potential to be a great Q car and a cheap track toy. Plus Metros are now sufficiently rare that a mechanically modified one becomes retro rather than boy racer I reckon.

It'll still probably hold up. TBH, you're not going to put many miles on it...

All Metros, later Maxis, MGFs, Allegros and Princess were Hydragas. 1100/1300s, landcrabs, 3 litres and mk1A, m2 and early mk3s were Hyrolastic.

I know that it soooooo wrong to love this, but I do. It is bonkers, absolutely and totally bonkers - and that is why.

Heres' a thought, buy it and stick the oily bits into a GTM.

You seem to be confusing 'rather walk' with 'need to walk' hehe

The old mini box is quite tough. Bear in mind taht there are people boring minis out to 1410cc and using them on the same box. Failing that you can get racing boxes for them.

Left field indeed!

From memory, they only moved on to Peugot gearboxes when the Metro became the Rover 100 and got the K series engine so this one will be the original gearbox in the sump arrangement. That means the power and torque will be putting the transmission right on the limit - the factory MG Metro Turbo was known to be fragile and had less power than is claimed here.

The original brakes were actually pretty highly specced for the performance with 4 pot calipers - or was that just the 1275 versions? Anyway, what condition they're in now is another matter.

I love the underbonnet shot - it really looks like a supercharger with a little A series bolted to it.

Not for me but I'll applaud anyone who takes it on!

i reckon its more 70 - 90 bhp marker too!

i have a 1293 with the same charger attached to it in my Mini, and without the chargecooler plugged in it's running at around 120 bhp. still not fully set up yet, mine will do 150bhp easy.

this would be worth buying just to stick the engine in a Mini. much cooler!

Pedant time. Rust is (famously) more massive than metal (it's an oxide after all).

So it will only get lighter once bits drop off....

Excellent pedantry sir.

FWIW I think this'd be bonkers. They're so low that they almost don't roll, and with some decent wheels and tyres (R888s don't come in 12" but Caterfield wheels are probably the right PCD?) it'd go round corners in an indecently comical way, and probably lift-off oversteer. biggrin

A Sally Gunnal, not much to look at but a good runner.

Essentially this car is good for one thing - that Eaton SC. Is that worth £700??

My first car was a Rover Metro, that bloody suspension was nothing but a constant nightmare, well having a couple of mechanics as friends meant it was a nightmare. Basically they found it great fun to let the suspension down at night when the car was left outside various friends houses etc, so I'd come to it in the morning, one side touching the deck, or just one corner, or all 4 corners!!

Aside from that great shed, nothing more nuts than a supercharged shed!

Is it just me but does it not look worryingly like a Reliant Robin in the front 3/4 shots? Something to do with dropped suspension/dark wheels/narrow track....

Anyway, as had been said, drop the lump into a Mini and have a blast.

When I was 18 in 1991 I had Mk1 Metro Turbo, red over black. I had some fun in that car.... :-)
I'd pay a lot of money for a Mk1 Metro Turbo again, pre facelift. But there is only about 50 left apparently.

Messed around with a pipe under the bonnet and it was probobly giving 110 bhp in an 800kg car, enough for an 18 year old certainly.

There used to be a guy around Crawley who had an identical one to mine but with a side-exit exhaust, just like the Metro Turbo Challenge race cars. That thing FLEW! I used to see him hooning about in it racing everything that moved, he came past me once leading an S1 RS Turbo doing about 130mph on the A23. Would love to know what he had done to it, those Metro Turbo Challenge racecars ran about 200bhp....
