Phew, it's gone.

Although one of these is now officially down as a major contender for my 2011 summer car. :P

Am I making it up or is a W124 coupe actually called a C124? Wiki seems to agree, but that's hardly a reliable source.

Good. I was getting into insurance quotes.

I kind of feel we should have a bargain older Mercs thread.

I'll kick off with this bad boy

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/2432983.htm

34k miles from new, in the ideal spec for a saloon (aside from the MB Tex - though this has it's fans and won't hurt your suit) and currently for sale at a sum vastly less than the options probably cost form new.
£3k! Or wait for a 'specialist' to get hold of it, throw £500 at sorting the bodywork and it'll be up for twice as much.

Could very well be the case, but it only makes sense in my head if I describe it as a W124 coupe (i'm easily confused, you see) wink

There seems to be a lot of specialists out there asking serious money for a W124. That said, Garlick bought his estate from such a dealer and paid proper money for it, they must be doing something right with them

'Tis indeed. The convertible is the A124 and the estate a S124, the W124 is strictly speaking the saloon. redface

Sigh - makes me wish I had my old C124 320 back, happy memories of the kick-down and then hurtling towards the horizon if almost complete silence with the three pointed star at the end of a long bonnet.

Great Shed! I can't believe you can buy so much car for so little money, throw another £500 at it and it will be a minter!

You're right to an extent. Specialists, like dealers, are hit and miss. I'm only a little miffed at the thought because my old E30 cab is up on a certain classic car sales site at twice the price. I didn't lose money on the car, the next guy did, but this specialist has claimed it's never had rust and is in 100% original condition. He's in fact changed the bumpers, and, I assume, he's sorted the frilling, bubbling and now probable rust around the arches and door sills. The chap I sold it to replaced the hood with a non standard item and unfortunately allowed the rot to spread.

This is a strange coincidence. This morning whilst crossing the street and identical example of this car and found myself thinking, 'that's really nice' and walking home this evening I passed a pristine cabriolet version (grey on grey with cream trim) and thought the same. And then I log onto Pistonheads and see one as shed of the week...

Mate my dad had EXACTLY the same car, same colour, alloys everything and got rid of in June after it started costing mega money to keep it running. The electrics were fried and the gearbox was beginning to go too. Still I have many happy memories of the kickdown too! The motorway munching ability of those cars and the beauty of the pillarless frame will live long in the memory. I just can't believe he gave it away for £800 notes without even telling me...the ride quality even with some long motorway miles on it was exceptional. I just wish I'd got the chance to give it a proper send off!

They are lovely those, £750 is a total bargain if its half as good as it looked, there is an old Boy down here with an E reg saloon, just trundles to the Church and the shops, he has had from new I think certainly the 13 years we have been here and it never looks any different, I do want it for some reason if he sells it.

Amazing how many cars are totally original, even at 25 years old

Hi chaps nice car and a bargain! That seemed a cracking buy.

If anyone is interested I have an M reg e320 coupe, dark blue, with cream leather interior. That I think I'm going to sell, due to move of house, new job and new dogs.

Just put 12 months mot on it, loads of history, full service in the last year, new Bosch Alternator and various other parts. Been my daily driver for the last year, mainly driving Swindon to Bracknell up the M4 most days.

I'm after about £1500ish .

Pic is a few months old, before a big clean

Mods: I hope I'm not taking the P*ss , I just thought the above was relevant to the thread (bargain sheds) and will be putting it in the classified this weekend.

Don't see why it's a problem, it's relevant and SOTW is basically a car advert anyway,

Go the whole hog, list the mileage, the history, how many owners etc and any unusual extras.

Yes please. Disposable money for a luxo-shed. It doesn't get better than this.
