PETROL PRICES.... YES WE CAN DO SOMETHING!

It won't work. As said above the main problem with fuel prices is the huge proportion of tax on each litre! The only way of protesting against this is for everyone to not use their cars for a week which will have a huge impact on the income of the government! However, this would realistically never happen, people need their vehicles, the government recognise this and know they can always get away with "that little bit more".
Not only that, but if the Government's income falls as a result of people not using their cars, then they will just tax something else. The country is bankrupt, and the only way to get out of the mess is to raise more income, and cut costs!
The only constant at the moment is that the motorist is seen as an easy touch. If it's not the motorist,it's likey to be the drinker, or the smoker, or the people who spend money in the shops! Oh, and of course, these are still the same people as are being hit for fuel duty i.e. you, me, and every other person on the street!
The sooner that people realise that whatever happens we are going to be squeezed until we squeek, the quicker you will come to terms with it! It's just that some people will squeek sooner than than others!

I see you have a tvr. If you cant afford to put the petrol in it sell it and i would have thought if you had a tvr you would be able to afford the petrol. A lot of people at this time thinking they are struggling but still have the expensive cars 200,000 pound house all the goods. A lot of people lived beyond they means for to long and when somethings goes wrong they are fked because everything is on finance exc, exc. Petrol doesnt really bother me that much since ive been driving the lowest it dropped to was 1.11 so in a year it gone up 14p hardly a lot. People need to see that they cant have everything if you cant afford it dont have it
I am not saying i cant afford it and lads please calm down after all we all have different opinions , i did not buy a tvr to worry about petrol prices i was merely saying that the oil companies make vast profits each year and before anyone says it yes the government take vast amounts of tax from petrol prices but if they did not recover that amount from fuel we would pay the price elsewhere.garfys v8s said:

Very true they would take it elsewhere, but as I said earlier, go and look at what the end of year profits of major oil companies are as a percentage not in dollars or pounds. And to be rational about this the work that goes into producing 1 litre of petrol or diesel when compared to the work of producing 1 litre of beer or lager is staggering. Yet nobody is up in arms that a litre of Carling Black Label would be over a fiver in their local, they just pay up.

It was nonsense then, and it still is now.
It was nonsense then, and it still is now.
This has come up before, needless to say it didn't happen and won't happen now for two reasons:
People are more inclined to moan than actually put themselves out to do something and it would be virtually impossible to organise, it would need someone big like the AA/RAC behind it to make it happen. It would have to single out someone like BP to make things easier (we still need to buy somewhere).
The result would be that it would be all over the news in no time, pictures of empty BP petrol stations all over the UK - very embarassing for the government both here and abroad and something would get done simply to make it go away.

Even if we did what the OP said the price of fuel would only be cut by 10p the most and even that is extreme. In short there is NO WAY motorists could make the goverment cut the tax of fuel, even if we block all the refineryes as the goverment has a stockpile of fuel somewhere that we will never know.
What would really hurt the oil companies is if we boycotted Fina!
I'm sure if the one remaining Fina petrol station was to close down, it would have a MASSIVE effect on... the Saturday girl who would have to find a new job.
Maybe boycotting is a bit harsh! What if we all went in and bought all their sliced bread?
That would show them we mean business!!!

Oh god. Every few months some thick spanner who sniffs glue for a hobby posts this on Pistonheads trying to "rally the troops" and believing this will make a difference.
If only you stopped to think first
If only you realised in the first paragraph that Esso and BP are not the same company. One is BP, the other is Exxon-Mobil.
If only you used google- the very first result is dated 2004: "we are going to hit close to 89p by the summer"..."Please hold out until they lower the price to 69p/litre"
2005: "...95p/litre..."
2007 "1.06p/litre. Soon it might be £1.10 litre..."
