Judging from the first pics I saw, I thought this was going to be the most attractive BMW ever.
But that bend in the side "made in a supermarket carpark" makes it look damaged and cheaper!
What a pity, because the general look is so sleek.
I agree, they've done the same thing on the new 5 series too. Totally unneccesary. I thought they'd banished all this swirly flame surfacing\swage line crap when they got rid of Bangle, obviously not. Cheapens what is overall a good look. But that bend in the side "made in a supermarket carpark" makes it look damaged and cheaper!

It really is about time they started adorning their cars with appropriate names, that should be the "Crown Plaza 650ic".......
Very funny...I think you are onto something there. That will lead to the M-B Intercontinental 600SL and not forgetting the Audi Ambassador A8 LWBpredding said:

M-B Incontinental, maybe, and Audi Amabd or...something.... How about a Jaguar Fat Cat Pussy Magnette (a hark back to BL's MG days there...)
I think that the 'new' range of cars from BMW look rather good. Clearly in the new 6ers range most cars are aimed at people close to 50, who want a GT style ride not a hard as nails ride.
This larger engined model will sell in massive numbers in the US (now BMW's most lucrative market) and will also do well in the UAE, Dubai, Bahrain, and in one or two smaller European markets. I don't think so many will sell he in the UK but with a 640i on the cars who knows.
Looks good with the roof up and as technology marches on and EU safety regulations now dictate car design the days of lightweight sports GT's is well and truly over. Most buyers today want toys, electronics, safety devices and size...not point to point speed, steering feedback and a seat of your pants experience.

Has that not always been the case with GTs? If someone wants a GT that can also play sports car when needed, the 911 (or even the Boxster) does a pretty good job of straddling the boundary, but primarily the purpose of cars in this sector is to munch motorway and A-road miles comfortably and to look good whilst doing it (although to my eye this falls down a bit on the latter).
